Wonderful experience -- close to Tana airport too!

We highly recommend this place to anyone — and it is probably closer to the airport than downtown Tana is, so it would be a great way to start or end your trip to Madagascar. The lodge offers very safe and reliable airport transfers. The rooms are beautiful, modern, and spacious, and the staff are wonderful. Nearly all of them are from the nearby village (one of the goals of the place is to offer experience and training in the tourist industry). As far as I could tell, Ecole Lodge seems to have a very positive relationship with the community. While there, we did a paper-making tour, saw a dance group perform, and did a hike up the nearby hill with a great guide, Sedra. It’s a very calm and friendly place. The lodge is off grid and runs on solar power, and has fast wifi via satellite. The food is great and a lot of it is sourced from the fields and farm right outside the door.
My family hadn’t planned to stay at Ecole Lodge—we ended up there for three nights when our flight was cancelled—but it was one of our favourite parts of our trip to Madagascar. This hotel deserves to be better known!
The company that owns Ecole Lodge, Ramartour, will organize custom trips all over the country. We had already planned our trip so didn’t book a longer tour with them, but we were super impressed with all the staff we met, including the manager, Joel. They really went out of their way to make our experience special.

Hiking

The place is so quiet accompanied by a clean environment. Also our Bungalow is really comfortable. The welcome is satisfactory, the staff are very friendly as well as the village premises nearby. In short, it is a very good place to relax with family or others.

Very friendly staff and relaxed environment

We started our tour in Madagascar in this lodge, we had a wonderful stay: comfortable room with beautiful view! We enjoyed the local food which was homemade, eaten together with the family. After dinner they had some homemade rum. They also made delicious guava juice. Close by we visited a nice village and we explored a bit of Antananarivo. We definitely would recommend this place!

Excellent stay

This Ecole Lodge is off the beaten track. It is more like a very comfortable home stay B and B; only two rooms both with ensuite bathrooms. Food is home-cooked and served at the dinning room table. Wi-fi is available. The Lodge is located on farm land and is isolated.
