A convenient and comfortable place to stay

A great little hotel in the heart of town. We stayed one night while touring from Antananarivo to Île Sainte Marie. The rooms were clean with aircon and hot water. The WiFi worked well, the attached restaurant was good and the staff on hand to help us get a taxi at 2am as we headed off.

Absolutely perfect for a overnight stops!

Found this hotel through a tour guide during the covid lockdown, and have stayed here several times now for stopovers driving from Antanarive to Mahambo. Rooms are perfect comfort, hot water showers, really fast internet (high speed routers next to every room, totally reasonable prizes for rooms, highly comfortable rooms, every staff totally friendly and helpful, and located off the indépendance Avenue, a couple of minutes walk to supermarkets and good restaurants, like l'affiche. I can't fault this small malagasy owned hotel in anyway. The most important issue after long drives have been addressed here, a great comfortable rest. There's also a restaurant and bar in-house. Thanks again H1. I will always use this hotel. Tip, book in advance as it's almost always full!

Expensive. Rooms very hot. No wifi. Mosquito nets dont fit

I've just left this hotel i was staying as part if a group trip. The rooms are a large size but very hot.
Food is expensive and the only vegetarian/vegan option on the menu is starter of salad.
Drinks expensive.
A glass fell off the table in my room and the hotel demanded 6000AR for it to be replaced.
Mosquito nets do not fit over the bed and are full of holes so you just get bitten and you cant open the windows to cool down.
Long time waiting for food once ordered.
The toilet does flush however and the shower gets warm.
The pool looks really dirty so i didnt use it.
I wouldnt come back. Hotel is quite far from the town but good for Isalo national park

Guaranteed air con and very good hot shower

Hotel H1 is a small hotel chain found in several of the larger cities/tourist destinations around Madagascar. After a few hotel shockers during our month in the country we found ourselves staying in a Hotel H1 wherever we could.
We stayed twice in this particular H1 in Tamatave as it was so comfortable and much needed after a long, hot taxi brousse trip from Antananarivo and ferry+taxi brousse travelling back the other way. The air conditioning was spot-on, the bed was very comfortable, it was quiet considering it was in the middle of a city. The restaurant next door/in-house (we couldn't figure out if it was actually part of the hotel or not) met our needs perfectly and provided a friendly welcome.

Good budget choice with convenient location

Surprised that this hotel was actually very good value for money, and much better than the average Madagascar hotel. The location is good, about 50m from the main avenue (so it is quiet because it is not on a main street), and the staff helpful and efficient.
Clean room with enough space, good hot water in the shower, reliable internet with a good signal and even a few working TV channels. Clean restaurant next door as well (part of the hotel). If you think of this hotel as more like a motel (single storey) then you will know what to expect. Very clean sheets, room was clean and it was great for a stopover between buses. Much better than the Hotel Joffre that we used on our first visit.
So if you are looking for a clean, quiet and good budget hotel then this hotel should be on your list. Not luxury but small, clean and great for a good sleep.
