Good stay.

Nice and good view of the river.
Stayed for 3 days and it is a decent and centrally located hotel in Kuching and right infront of the famous Kuching statue. The room is clean and comfy. The water pressure is good.
The breakfast is plenty and I like the local offering i.e Laksa and Mee Kolok.
A good stay.

Should Have Been a Much Better Hotel

I had expected a much better experience from this hotel. It has plenty of character and potential, but unfortunately, poor maintenance and inconsistent service overshadowed its strengths.
What the Hotel Did Well
We were warmly greeted by the three front desk staff, who made us feel genuinely welcome. That was an excellent first impression.
The hotel is also in a great location, with many local eateries and fast-food outlets such as McDonald’s and KFC within walking distance.
Breakfast offered a decent variety, including local favourites such as laksa, kolo mee, and nasi lemak, alongside Western options like bread, cereal, and fresh fruit.
Our room was spacious, and the bed and pillows were very comfortable, ensuring a good night’s sleep despite the issues we encountered.
Areas That Need Immediate Attention
Room 254
* The chair was so filthy that I did not dare sit on it.
* The anti-slip mat in the bathtub had black stains all over it.
* The toilet paper holder was covered with a layer of dust
* The room was extremely cold, and the air-conditioning could not be controlled manually. Even after switching it off, the air-conditioning continued running and the room remained freezing. My friend in Room 307 experienced the same problem. We called the technician, but unfortunately he was unable to resolve the issue. Thankfully, the comforter kept us warm throughout the night.
Day 1 – Breakfast
The hot milk dispenser was empty. I informed one of the waitresses, who simply nodded but did nothing to refill it. That was disappointing.
Day 3 – Breakfast
The coffee and tea dispenser was out of order, leaving no coffee available. There was only a pot of black tea. We requested three cups of teh tarik, which arrived after about 10 minutes, only for us to be charged RM41.
This was particularly frustrating because breakfast was already included in our room rate. We were charged for an alternative beverage simply because the hotel’s own coffee and tea dispenser was not working. That should not have been the guests’ responsibility.
Overall Rating
* ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for the warm welcome from the front desk staff.
* ⭐☆☆☆☆ for maintenance, breakfast service, and service recovery.
Final Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5)
I hope the hotel management will not simply dismiss these issues by saying that the hotel is old. An older property can still be charming when it is properly maintained and professionally managed.
This hotel has character, but unfortunately that character has been overshadowed by neglect, inconsistent service, poor maintenance, and a lack of effective service recovery. I sincerely hope management takes these comments seriously, as the hotel has the potential to provide a far better guest experience.

Great value hotel with old facilities but good food and hospitality

We stayed for 3 nights as a base for our activities at Wildlife Center in overseas training for high school students.
Facing the Kuching River, it is conveniently located in convenience stores and supermarkets. It felt like a safe area. Perfect for a morning walk.
The first thing I liked about it was the hospitality of the staff. They always greeted us and welcomed us with groups of high school students who didn't like it in Japan.
And the most delicious breakfast is steamed vegetables, which are fresher and sweeter than Hokkaido such as Niseko. Steamed vegetables tell you how good or bad the local ingredients are.
It doesn't look good with bread, but definitely try the local jam. The other dishes were really good and gave me energy in the morning. Yogurt and milk are especially valuable in Malaysia, where dairy products are expensive.
The unfortunate thing is that it is still old.
The mud-filled water from the shower and the bathtub lid were broken. If you don't like this, let's make it a new hotel.
Even so, the rooms are clean, so I think overall the hotel is very good.
