Lovely location but some what underwhelming experiences
Couple of specific points - the food is buffet style and perfectly fine but nothing to write home about .
The pool is lovely - great views - but ji where near big enough for the number of guests and because everyone is on the same itinery everyone wants to use it at the same time and the number of loungers needs to be tripled at least
I wish them all the best though - lovely people

Do not expect a resort in the jungle
Regarding the excursions, they are very weak. The jungle experience is limited to a boat ride through the (artificial) swamp, a 30-minute hike in which the guides give up on finding animals from the very first moment (because they are not seen), a swim in a small waterfall, and a brief visit to a village.
Apart from this, there is nothing else to do. Therefore, the stay is quite frustrating.

How to ruin best location
Unfortunately, the experience was unforgettable for completely different reasons.
The biggest problem is the complete lack of customer orientation. Everything seems slow, complicated and organized around what is convenient for the hotel rather than what is convenient for the guest.
We booked a boat to explore the lake — arguably the main reason to come here — only to discover that the boat was unavailable. Apparently there are three boats, but only one was operating. What made this particularly frustrating was that there is a public jetty nearby where private boat services are available. Nobody suggested this alternative. We had to figure it out ourselves.
Even after that, instead of simply arranging for a boat operator to come and pick us up, the hotel organized an expensive taxi to take us there. Problem solved — in probably the least efficient and most expensive way possible.
The rooms deserve a separate chapter.
Some creative designer apparently decided that the toilet should effectively be inside the bedroom, separated only by a curtain. Privacy, it seems, was considered an unnecessary luxury. Meanwhile, the shower has a glass door. I am still trying to understand the architectural philosophy behind this arrangement.
There is also no telephone in the room, so there is no simple way to contact reception. In a remote rainforest resort, where guests depend heavily on the hotel for transportation, activities and other arrangements, this is particularly strange.
Then there is the restaurant.
Anyone arriving here dreaming of enjoying wonderful Malaysian cuisine should adjust their expectations immediately. The objective quickly changes from “let’s enjoy Malaysian food” to “let’s find something reasonably edible and fill our stomachs.” The food was genuinely disappointing.
And then came perhaps my biggest cultural shock: no beer in the restaurant.
We are in a hot, tropical location marketed largely to tourists, including international visitors, yet you cannot order a cold beer with dinner. Apparently, however, beer does exist — in a vending machine next to the billiard table. So somewhere in the management philosophy, serving beer in a restaurant is problematic, but buying it from a machine beside a pool table is perfectly acceptable.
The frustrating thing is that Royal Belum itself is magnificent. The lake, rainforest and surroundings have enormous potential. This could easily be a destination people remember for years for all the right reasons.
Instead, there is a huge gap between the quality of the location and the quality of the hospitality.
I had seriously considered returning here specifically for fishing. After this stay, however, I am reconsidering. I can accept basic conditions when travelling somewhere genuinely remote. What is much harder to accept is poor service, bad planning and the absence of any real effort to find solutions for guests.
Royal Belum Rainforest deserves a hospitality experience worthy of its extraordinary surroundings. Unfortunately, at the moment, the rainforest is doing all the work.

A more eco-friendly approach would be needed
Inserted
In a beautiful natural setting. Unfortunately, it is all 'concrete' with a view of the viaduct. The rooms inside are very beautiful
