The dirtiest apartment ever stayed in!
I have been traveling for 25 years and went to 50 countries on all continents and have never seen such laziness and filth.
We travelled to Mauritius for 3 weeks and spend time in differe regions.
Grand Baie was supposed to be our top destination for final 7 days around New Years and to rest from hiking.
A couple is “maintaining” this property but owner is “available” on WhatsApp.
We dealt with “manager” as owner offered his help but just offloaded it and didn’t really want to have anything with us.
Firstly they gave us wrong apartment keys that open next door apartment that already had guests. They told us that we have the right keys but after we insisted, they came back with the right set of keys. Ironically, our keys had key ring with the name of the opposite apartment on it.
“Managers” were a couple beyond clueless about hospitality and how to greet&meet guests and how a rental should actually be like. They are nice and smiling but that doesn’t solve issues (lady doesn’t speak English but was involved with everything.)
We were cleaning for three days, bagging old paint, dirty bags, toilet brush, stained plastic basin, empty dusty cleaning supplies, scrubbing silicone of the bathroom sink, black hair over bathroom floor and shower.
Kitchen was as good as former renter left it, covered with food leftovers; washing machine filter was never cleaned, black mold in the fridge, sofa and armchair are from Goodwill fully stained, bed rest is falling apart, some cosmetic leftovers (cotton swabs, nail polish remover etc), filthy blanket smelling in the closet.
Bathroom is a story to itself! I have never seen anything like it! Sink was never cleaned, mirror barely hanging to the wall, shower absolutely disgusting. Ofcourse, no hand soap, two loo rolls and some leftover trash in the bin.
Towels are stained and in use for several years. Didn’t use them but wiped myself with toilet paper.
Small cabinet was locked and only after we asked for clean sheets and towels they gave us combination lock. We found some sheets but no clean towels.
Who puts linen under the lock for the guests with no code?!
Pressure in the shower was nonexistent.
You could have a weak shower but not wash your hair. I have ear length hair but there was no pressure to wash out shampoo.
Had to go to hair dresser to wash my hair twice and another time I had washed it on the public beach shower.
We used 2 coffee cups and 2 spoons that we have previously scolded in the hot water.
Rest was not usable.
Oven was fully stained and oily.
We had to buy hand soap, washing liquids, sponges, kitchen rolls and toilet paper. We were told we can buy all this on our own (if other guests don’t have a car, not sure how they transport it?!).
After we have asked twice they left us clothes rack and trash bags. But they have lend clothes rack from the neighbors and came back next day to bring it back. They eventually bought clothes rack after we have insisted.
Also, we didn’t know where to dispose trash so we would walk around until we found bins.
Pool - let’s not start. Just walked next to it on the way to the car.
“Managers” are absolutely not able to cater for clean guests, no basics, no knowledge.
Towel story is a special one. They left us one small and one big towel for the two of us for a week. We were asking every day via WhatsApp for extra towels both to owner and manager. On the last day we got one small and one big towel pushed through the window in the joint hallway.
We are not resort guests and don’t fancy that style of traveling. We are hikers looking for simple and clean places that we can come to shower and rest. Completely understand fees involved booking this place. Hence we opted for smaller, self catering condo in a great location but filth is a next level of laziness and “do not care approach”.
Absolutely unacceptable.
Condo is super cute with loads of light (4 big windows and entrance door plus bathroom window). Has kitchen appliances (oven, microwave, toaster, fridge/frezer), TV, wi-fi, iron and board, safe deposit box, A/C and fan. Parking.
But all was super beyond filthy.
Owner needs new managers who understand what cleaning means.
A couple days of scrubbing, few gallons of bleach, power washer and getting some new items would make a place look great and inviting.
This way it is jusy a filthy pad.
As a bonus, I got bed bugs.
Seriously, this place is a sanitary disaster.
