Very old school Mexican with a tiny but excellent room. Perfect fit for a trip to rural Mexico to see the pyramid and the price was excellent.

Want an incredible authentic Maya experience?

I have had an opportunity to use Hotel Mayahau in the village of Coba as my base to explore neighboring ruins, villages, and cenotes on several occasions. So much better to get a feel for "a real Maya experience" than the hotels of Cancun or Tulum. This family-run hotel is a gem. The rooms are exceedingly comfortable, the authentic cuisine at the on-site restaurant is beautifully and well-prepared, and the staff among the most friendly and helpful I have yet to encounter. I always feel as if I am part of the family. Their website at hotelmayahau.com is easy to use and helpful in planning both lodging and my Maya adventures. I recommend this hotel and all it has to offer without reservation.

excellent base for the Coba ruins

stayed here one night before visiting Coba. Receptionist spoke excellent English and gave us good advise re visiting the ruins and local cenotes. Rooms were comfortable , on site restaurant was good. Walkable to the ruins . As noted in the reviews there was cockerel and dog noise in the night but you are staying rural .

Great value

We drove past the hotel twice before we found it. It’s actually tucked behind the Chilli Piquante restaurant on the left before the lagoon.
You can park on the street and it’s a few minutes walk to the Mayan ruins.
There is also wifi and aircon.
The room is fairly basic, it doesn’t have great noise insulation but it was fine for $60!

Clean new rooms in Coba

We have stayed in Coba on four ocasiones in as many years. This was our second time at Hotel Maya and first time staying upstairs in their new rooms. We had a nice large room with plenty of space and a good sized bathroom with a separate area for the toilet, so you aren’t stepping out of the shower right next to it. The air conditioner and ceiling fan keep the room very comfortable which is a big plus in the hot July weather. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful and the cleaning ladies did a great job each day. We love the improvements that have been done and look forward to seeing what’s next. We will be back again next year.
