Front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The bartender and waitstaff were great. We were not there for business and initially wondered what we would do each day with only the mall in walking distance. The front desk connected us with a great taxi driver. We were able to go to the WTA tennis tournament, go sightseeing and take day trips every day.

Month after month, the same mistakes: the worst Holiday Inn we have ever stayed at. The worst holiday

We stay at this hotel approximately once a month, and my husband is also a member of their frequent guest program. Unfortunately, after multiple stays, we can say that it has been, by far, the worst Holiday Inn we have ever stayed at. In fact, several of the situations we have experienced here, we had not experienced at any other hotel, of this or other chains, in different countries.
The problem has not been an isolated incident, but a constant accumulation of serious failures month after month. It gives the impression that the staff lacks clear processes and, on many occasions, the judgment to resolve basic situations. We have received very poorly cooked food; on another stay, I got sick from spoiled food; the internet fails frequently and they imply that perhaps you don't know how to connect; depending on the room they give you, it will work or not; simple requests are forgotten at the restaurant; and with room service, they might respond that it will take 50 minutes, which is not the standard protocol, arguing that there are too many guests.
The most serious issue has been the lack of respect for our privacy. On two occasions, they have entered or attempted to enter our room without properly requesting authorization. In one instance, because they forgot to notify us that they needed to perform a repair; in another, the cleaning staff opened the door, merely announcing "Housekeeping" without waiting for our response. This is especially concerning and completely improper for a hotel that should have basic protocols in place to protect the privacy and security of its guests.
I have spoken personally with the manager on different occasions and have always conveyed my complaints respectfully, hoping they would be corrected. She has always been very kind. However, we return every month and new problems appear or the previous ones repeat. Therefore, at this point, it no longer seems to be a matter of occasional errors, but rather structural problems with operation, supervision, and staff training. The loyalty program means nothing; it makes no difference whether you are a member or not. It only serves for you to accumulate points and use them elsewhere.
If you only need a place to sleep, it might be functional, although it is worth considering that there are two speed bumps in front of the hotel that generate quite a bit of noise every time vehicles pass over them. If you expect a level of service consistent with what a Holiday Inn normally offers, I would not recommend staying here.
We continue to use it mainly because of its proximity to the place we need to go regularly, not because we are satisfied with the service. On a positive note, there is a shopping plaza right across the street, which is convenient. Other than that, our repeated experience has been deeply disappointing.

The hotel is located right across from the "Isla Mall", which is okay. It is close to the Periferico of Merida which makes it convenient to get to various places.
As far as our room was concerned,
The carpet in our room was nor clean/vacuumed upon arrival.
They have very strict policies regarding early checkins. We arrived a couple of hours early as we drove from Tulum. We were tired and wanting to rest. However the front desk person was very unaccommodating. I found this interesting as an early arrival isn't unusual and at times a fee may be charged, which is ok. I can understand a hotel being completely booked and with a high turn-over, however this was not the case. I was disappointed with IHG and they promptly reminded me why I prefer to stay at Hilton properties.
We did have several power outages which also led to loss of water.
NOISE--- the hotel being Infront of the mall, where there are several rumble strips on the road, made our stay uncomfortable as well. There is nothing one can do but tolerate the incessant rumble noise that goes on 24/7. 2 to 3 rumbles at a time every time a car passed in front of the hotel.
The parking is under the hotel and it is dark and feels unsafe.
I do not recommend this property if rest peace and quiet is what you are looking for.
