A Hidden Gem in Valladolid – La Casa del Árbol (formerly La Casa de Ángel)
Staying at La Casa del Árbol was truly unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, I felt embraced by the warmth and charm of Yucatán. The property is absolutely beautiful — a white house with blue accents and rustic red brick walls that immediately give it a welcoming, authentic feel.
The main house is spacious, with comfortable rooms and the lovely touch of traditional hammocks in every bedroom. I loved that detail — it felt like living the true Yucatecan way. The back garden is breathtaking: lush trees, colorful flowers, a peaceful pond with fish, and a refreshing pool with a rustic pitcher fountain that made me feel instantly relaxed. There are several communal spaces — a meditation palapa with hammocks, another palapa where breakfast and coffee are served, and outdoor tables shaded by trees where you can enjoy the calm atmosphere.
The suites in the back house are perfect for families or groups. Each one has a kitchen, bathroom, and beds to accommodate everyone comfortably. My favorite part was how every space felt private yet connected to nature.
What really makes La Casa del Árbol special is the feeling of home. It’s not just a place to sleep — it’s a place where you slow down, breathe, and connect. The bicycles available for rent made exploring Valladolid even better. The location is perfect: just one block from the charming San Juan Park and church, and a short walk to the main square, museums, and restaurants.
I left with beautiful memories — swimming under the Yucatán sun, swinging in a hammock, sipping coffee in the garden, and feeling completely at peace. La Casa del Árbol is more than a guesthouse, it’s a sanctuary full of soul. Jesús Ángel is an incredible host; he is on top of things and even provided coffee, fruit and pan dulce. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Valladolid.
Whether you’re traveling alone, with family, or friends, this place will stay in your heart long after you’ve left.

Peaceful refuge, pretty garden. Adequate if you don’t need a kitchen.
The front is run down and looks like an old hostel. The back garden is a peaceful place to sit and relax (depending on the level of consideration by the other guests, of course). There’s a fish pond, a plunge pool and several hammocks.
The cleaning lady was very pleasant and asked us every day if we’d like the room cleaned. We didn’t and she’d then offer to bring shampoo, toilet paper, more towels, etc.
The ‘kitchen where guests can prepare their own meals’ was very disappointing, unclean dishes and glasses set out on the table, an old and noisy fridge, one burner working on a rusted propane stove, a frying pan, kitchen knife and a microwave. Chopping board was beyond unhygienic. We asked for a saucepan and some kitchen utensils and got a billy can and a spatula. Virtually impossible to prepare food, let alone cook, unless your expectation is very low.
There was also some misunderstanding about the ‘breakfast’ comprising coffee and sweet rolls. On the second day, we were told via whatsapp that this was not included for us. We’d have thought, having committed to a week long stay, such a small courtesy might have been extended - if for no other reason than to compensate for all the items missing that were supposed to be included in the kitchen. It seemed to be available for everyone but us which left us feeling uncomfortable.
