Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun: Small Resort, Big Impression ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It did!
This is a smaller, newer resort, and that was actually one of my favorite things about it. The property was easy to navigate, everything felt fresh and well maintained, and I never felt like I had to spend half my vacation walking from one end of the resort to the other.
I was only there for a short, sweet stay, but the resort and, especially, the staff definitely left a lasting impression on me.
️ Beach Access
Although Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun is not technically considered a beachfront property, you can access the beach directly from the resort.
That said, manage your expectations. The beach area is very small and not really walkable, so if you’re booking specifically for long beach walks or a wide, expansive stretch of sand, this may not be the resort for you.
For me, it wasn’t a dealbreaker because I was more interested in the overall resort experience than spending my entire vacation on the beach.
️ Room & Value
One of the things I loved most about this resort was the reasonable price point. I also really appreciated that pool-view rooms are standard, so there isn’t an additional upcharge just to have a nice view.
I stayed in a one-bedroom suite with a king-size bed, and I was very happy with my accommodations. The room was comfortable, modern, and fit perfectly with the overall feel of the property.
For what I paid, I felt that I received excellent value.
️ Dining
The resort has four specialty restaurants:
Italian
Mexican
Spanish
️ Caribbean
There’s also a pizzeria and a buffet serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
A couple of things to know before you arrive:
The specialty restaurants aren’t all open every day, so definitely check the schedule when you check in and plan your dinners accordingly.
Also, the restaurants do not accept reservations. Seating is first come, first served, so timing is important.
I learned that lesson one evening when I tried to dine at La Brisa, the Caribbean restaurant. Unfortunately, I arrived too late and was told the waitlist was approximately an hour long, with no guarantee that I would actually be seated.
Fortunately, the staff stepped in and helped turn the situation around.
Standout Service
The entire staff was incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful, but Ceidi and Mario deserve a special shoutout.
After I left La Brisa because of the long wait, Ceidi approached me and genuinely tried to make the situation right. She offered me another dining option, and I was able to get seated at Nopal, the Mexican restaurant.
What impressed me even more was that she didn’t just help me in that moment and move on. Ceidi followed up with me while I was dining to make sure everything was okay and also explained my options for dining at another specialty restaurant the following evening.
That kind of follow-through really stood out to me. It’s one thing to solve a problem; it’s another to actually check back in and make sure your guest is still having a good experience.
Then there’s Mario.
I rented a cabana for the day, and Mario was my server. This man took GOOD care of me!
He made sure I always had a drink, kept my water bottle filled with ice-cold water, and checked on me periodically throughout the day without being intrusive.
He was attentive, friendly, and genuinely seemed to care about my comfort.
Mario understood the assignment.
Entertainment & Atmosphere
My stay was during the resort’s off-season, so the property was relatively quiet and definitely wasn’t at full capacity.
Honestly? I loved it.
Even though there weren’t a ton of guests around, the resort still made a great effort to keep everyone entertained. There were daily activities during the day and entertainment in the evening, so it never felt like the resort had completely slowed down for the off-season.
Although this is a family-friendly resort, there weren’t many children during my stay, which made the atmosphere feel especially peaceful and relaxing.
If you’re looking for a massive, high-energy resort with crowds everywhere, this probably isn’t the right fit.
But if you prefer something smaller, newer, quieter, and easier to navigate, I think this property is definitely worth considering.
One Area for Improvement
If I had to identify one thing I’d like to see the resort improve, it would be the lighting around the property at night.
To be clear, I felt safe during my entire stay. However, some of the pathways were quite dim, and the lighting that was present wasn’t particularly bright.
I especially noticed this in the stairwell vestibules. The light fixtures were there, but they weren’t turned on. Increasing the lighting in these areas and along some of the pathways would make getting around the property at night feel more comfortable and would improve visibility.
It’s a relatively small thing, but it’s the type of detail that can make a big difference in the overall guest experience.
⭐️ Final Verdict
I genuinely don’t have any major complaints about my stay, which is saying something because I can definitely be particular when it comes to resorts.
For the reasonable price, newer property, comfortable accommodations, standard pool views, dining options, daily activities, evening entertainment, and—most importantly—the staff, Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun earns a well-deserved 10/10 from me.
The small beach, first-come, first-served restaurant seating, and dim lighting at night are things I’d recommend keeping in mind when deciding whether this resort is right for you. However, none of those things negatively impacted my overall experience.
Sometimes a resort doesn’t have to be the biggest, fanciest, or most extravagant property to make a great impression.
Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun gave me exactly what I wanted: a beautiful, modern property, excellent service, plenty to do, good dining options, and a relaxed atmosphere without feeling overwhelming.
Would I return?
Absolutely.
Would I recommend it to friends and family?
Without hesitation.
Would I book it again?
Let’s just say I wouldn’t need much convincing.
☀️ Iberostar Selection Riviera Cancun — I’ll definitely be back!

Refurbished resort with amazing refreshment!
The pools were nice and spacious but the beach is small and the water isn't clear. Very murky right now due to the access seaweed. Service at the swim up bar was really good but there weren't any staff walking around taking drinks orders. I really enjoyed how they had a quiet pool.
The food was actually very good for an all inclusive. The breakfast buffet doesn't have any non pork breakfast sausage or bacon options. The a la carte restaurants were really good! Sometimes the service was a bit slow. The ice cream shops was SO good!
They had a ton of activities everyday. Don't miss the Sunset Ritual. It's so beautiful and spiritual. I even had fun making crafts and at the foam party.
Every night there was a show and a DJ set. The entertainers were actually very talented.
The cocktails at the restaurant were very good. I wished the swim up bar had an actual menu. I especially enjoyed their Cava.
Our room was gorgeous! We had a Oceanfront Corner Suite and it was truly oceanfront. The balcony was HUGE! It could fit about 50 - 60 people on it standing. There was 2 couches, dining tables and a day bed. Some of the chairs need be replaced though. Our room included a Jacuzzi tub by the window, had SO much space, bathrobes and so much storage.
The staff overall was really friendly and accommodating. They were always willing to go the extra mile and be helpful.
Just a few notes:
- Bring a refillable water bottle for their filtered water stations. They don't use plastic water bottles
- There are alot of iguanas walking around and a couple of raccoons at night
- Download the app, guest services is very responsive on it
I would definitely come back here again!

Disappointing experience.
The rooms are very nice , the different pool areas are also very nice with a lot lounge bed around the pools.
The food selection is limited and is not at the level of other Iberostar Selection Resort , the food quality in my opinion is actually lower than the quality at the Iberostar Mar y Beach Resort , which is Waves level.
Also the bar at the lobby are has a very disturbing and offensive image glorifying a documented homophobic and racist individual that was also directly involved in executions and violence at the beginning of the communist dictatorship in Cuba.
Political propaganda has no place in a hospitality environment meant for leisure and family entertainment.
As a global brand that promotes a premium, family-friendly, and politically neutral vacation experience, the inclusion of such highly polarizing political propaganda is entirely unacceptable.

Mother Daughter Vacation
The buffet wasn't one of my favorites. I didn't love the options or desserts compared to other buffets I've been at. One thing that I did like, though, was that there is a section just for kids (if traveling with any). We only ate at the Italian Restaurant and were pleased with our meals. There were 2 nights we realized last minute that the buffet wasn't open for dinner. It is more inconvenient, but we took advantage of the room service. The selection isn't the best and we didn't love it. All of the staff were pleasant and provided excellent service. There is an app where you can check daily activities, order room service, and check restaurant hours.
This is my least favorite beach out of several resorts I have stayed at. The flag was red most days, where there's no swimming. We went in one day when the flag was yellow. The water is brown, and you're stepping on rocks, seaweed, etc. We never went in again. The beach itself is very small... the water isn't far away, leaving less beach area for chairs or kids to play. I am more of a pool person, but I somehow missed that it wasn't the Caribbean Ocean and was as disappointing as it was. It's not an ideal location for a nice resort.
We loved the pool. We never had a problem getting clean towels (no card or return towel needed & located at a few spots), or getting a spot by the pool. We had a blast with water aerobics, a couple of foam parties, and just watching activities at the pool. We pretty well stuck to La Brisa all week. "Ever" was the name of my most frequent bartender at the swim-up. I loved the selection of daiquiris! Strawberry, mango, passionfruit, and raspberry, I believe. Passionfruit is amazing! Lemon drop shots are also perfect! It was never too busy, but keep in mind, it was a June vacation & peaceful!!
I did enjoy the size of the resort. I have been at larger ones, where you have to shuttle or walk way longer to get anywhere. This was nice and easy to find your way around. My daughter could easily just run to our room from the pool. It was really close.
Star Prestige isn't really something I would want. I don't stick with the same chain of hotels usually. I did find it feels very pushy, like you feel you need to join for breakfast and a 1.5hr info session... with perks for coupons and $ off excursions. We didn't go. We also chose no excursions this trip anyway, as we went to just relax. They have access to other pools and options, but nothing I felt I was missing out on.
There are 2 shops at the resort. As expected, they're very expensive. 2 bags of chips for $20usd or $15usd/each, for example. There are lots of cute souvenirs, though. We just spent too much money, lol.
There is a tattoo artist on the spa level. I found it pricy, but I got a meaningful tattoo I love and am pleased with. The experience was fun to do on a vacation.
Around the resort, I saw my first coati! Occasionally, you'll randomly see one running by. We saw a couple of small raccoons. I am used to seeing little tiny geckos running around, but here, there were always large iguanas nearby throughout the day. We had no issue with bugs, etc.
If you're not much of a beach person, I would likely recommend. Sadly, that's the downside to it. We had a great stay, though, and loved every minute! Meeting people was the best part! Thanks for an amazing vacation, Iberostar!

A bargain in Cancun
You can’t find a resort with this price and service in that area. If you’re looking for a mid size resort with excellent food go for it. I booked from their official website that saved me $100 per night compared to anywhere else.
There is no booking needed for La Carte restaurants which is a wow. We’ve tried Italian restaurant and David our waiter was amazing guy. We also tried Caribbean restaurant which was good. the buffet had good variety of food with high quality. It’s a bargain.
But if you’re looking for a nice beach I won’t recommend this resort.
