Nice clean hotel with off street parking and wifi

Incredibly clean (immaculate) in rooms and around hotel, fluffy towels and great sheets. Bed a little hard but that’s Mexico. Great wifi. Hot water. Off street parking.
Staff friendly. Neighborhood is a block back from Main Street so no street noise but some roosters and dogs (again normal for Mexico).
We liked it and would stay again. Very safe area.
Onsite restaurant had lots of options.
A great base for Calakmul trip.

Convenient hotel on Ruta Rio Bec

Spacious room with a bit of a “kitchen” decoration, but with good value for money payable in cash. In the evening we enjoyed the restaurant.
Practical side: absence of fridge, equipment for making a hot drink, toothed glass, safe, hairdryer, iron and ironing board.
Recalcitrant WiFi and slightly threadbare towels.

Hotel Maya Balam, a clean and well run small hotel in a safe and friendly Mayan town

Xpujil is a small Mayan town in the most southern part of the Yucatan peninsula. It is a friendly and safe location, convenient to Calakmul and to several smaller Mayan city ruins which are well worth seeing. The town has a number of places to eat and some small hotels, a bank, and a number of stores and stalls selling vegetables, crafts, and street side meals. Near the bottom of the main street there is an entertaining and capable shoe repair man and there is a place to have laundry done. There is a gas station and a busy bus station on the main street.
We stayed in the Hotel Maya Balam, a clean and well run small hotel with off street parking, good air conditioning, comfortable beds, private bathrooms with showers, friendly staff, and a small onsite restaurant. It is far enough up the hill from the main highway to leave the traffic noise behind.

Good quiet location (having a car helps), clean, comfortable, good wi-fi reception

After a horrible stay at Hotel & Restaurant Calakmul in Xpujil, I tried Hotel Maya Balam. What a difference! Clean, quiet, and fast wi-fi. Small free parking lot - probably can handle about 3-4 cars. Room was clean, good beds, clean sheets, and nice bathroom. Low water pressure in the sink was a bit annoying. Shower worked well.

For a one night-stay

When we booked the room, I already had in mind that this was just a one-night stopover. So I didn't have high expectations (rather extremely low) - in a way, the room was a pleasant surprise.
It was very big, the furnishings were ok.
The staff were friendly.
The bathroom has a terrible musty (?) smell.
The wi-fi in the room didn't work.
