Tranquility at Riad Dar Maya
What a beautiful Riad nestled in the heart of the Medina in Essaouira! We were welcomed in by friendly staff and greeted with coffee whilst we checked in. The Riad has a very welcoming feel and is surprisingly quiet when you know there is a lot hustle and bustle in the medina streets outside.
Our room was lovely, with a tranquil feel, bathroom was amazing and bed very comfortable. Very clean and great value for money.
What can we say about Youssef..... what a lovely manager! When my partner and I returned from dinner, I was greeted with the most amazing bunch of roses and a lovely note to celebrate my birthday. These kind gestures go along way and make you feel very special.
Breakfast was equally fantastic, with different breads and pastries, eggs, fruit and yoghurt, accompanied with delicious fresh orange juice and your choice of coffee or tea. There was no rush to go to breakfast either as breakfast served until late morning which is a win when you want that extra lie in.
Overall, my partner and I had a wonderful experience at the Riad Dar Maya and would definately recommend to anyone looking to visit Essaouira.

beautiful boutique hotel with good service
Dar Maya has been beautifully arranged and decorated giving a modern twist on Moroccan style. A real boutique hotel
Had a lovely big room with a comfy bed, clean and tidy and a good bathroom. Only niggle was the rather gloomy lighting.
Relaxing breakfast with a good range of quality items brought to the table.
Also enjoyed relaxing on the roof top where you can hear the waves from the nearby sea.

The Tignna Suite is a health hazard
TheTignna Suite is located on the 3rd floor under the roof terrace. It can rain in Essaouira, then the water runs down the wall in the Tignna Suite. The result is a wet, clammy indoor climate. No heating possibility. The other rooms seem ok.

Disappointment
I found it really embarrassing to stay in a so-called "Riad de Charme" which, unfortunately, charming has absolutely nothing and the photos you see on the site then live are other. From the reception to the structure, to the level of decor, everything was disappointing.
The common room was devoid of a real fountain — the one present was mural and not working. The cleanliness left much to be desired: stained sofas and chairs, the bed in the room with blood-stained pillowcases, sheets with hair and visibly dirty, as well as pierced and frayed towels.
On the rooftop, the tub was CLOSED, covered with a filthy tarp, accompanied only by two deckchairs thrown there to make a scene. The breakfast was monotonous, without any variant, and the coffee really bad. The humidity was oppressive everywhere, especially in the room, where the situation was even worse. But the icing on the cake? Cockroaches in the room and even on this occasion apologizing was superfluous
Despite all the inconveniences and errors found, no one has ever apologized to us.
After reading the previous reviews, I wonder: maybe the other guests saw this place with pink glasses... or simply, compared to where they usually live, this seemed like paradise to them?

Highly recommended
Brilliantly located on the edge of the medina. Walking distance of all sights and eateries.
A small boutique hotel with five rooms. Comfortable beds, WiFi, Nice continental breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooftop terrace is relaxing and jacuzzi great.
