Overall a perfect stay - can't recommend it enough

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Riad Zanzibar.
From the moment we were picked up by the transfer (arranged by the Riad for 20EUR each way) to the moment we left, we were nothing but impressed with this place.
Location
Location is superb. Close to the main square (10 min walk, if that) and close to taxi rank for airport transfers/excursions.
Room
We had two rooms amongst our group and they were both beautiful, well appointed and spacious. Both had air con which was a relief and were incredibly quiet and comfortable. Bed linens and towels changed daily which was great.
Riad
Beautiful and traditional Moroccan Riad. The pool is cold but perfect for cooling off after a day exploring Marrakech in the hot Moroccan sun. we used it every day and our children loved it.
Staff
Very pleasant and helpful. Cleaning stuff always said good morning and the manager was super helpful organising a private excursion for our group of 6 to the foothills of the Atlas mountains, as well as airport transfers (there and back) and recommending places to see/eat.
Top Tips
- Arrange the airport transfers through the riad - It's 20 EUR each way and includes a chap who collects your luggage and takes it from the Riad to the taxi rank 2 mins away - you pay at the hotel rather than to the driver
- Get the Riad breakfast - it's 5EUR per person (children were free) and it consisted of eggs, bread, Moroccan pancakes, jam, peanut butter, honey, yoghurt, coffee , mint tea and is served on the beautiful roof terrace
- The riad next door (Riad Si-Said) serves great Moroccan food and wine/beer and is worth a visit
- The riad doesn't accept card payments - we paid in Euros as we checked in
Overall a perfect stay - can't recommend Riad Zanzibar enough

Not pleasant

The receptionist or manager wasn’t happy with our nationality. Not even a smile , we felt unwanted as Moroccans . The rest of the staff were nice. The room was fine but there was a lot of dust and noise coming from the neighbours as they were demolishing an old house. I certainly don’t advise anyone to go there unless this institution works on few things
The receptionist you need to smile it’s not a jail
The smell of the wood stinks a bit
The furniture of the terrace needs some enhancements

Just not where to spend the night.

worst ever!
This Riad is a scam and not worth the money you pay. Horrible experience for our little family. Room, is nowhere what they advertized and even though great help from the resdption the poog person could not do much, instruction from his Danish boss! When comming to payment you cannot pay through Booking but get a Danish account number to pay to. Completly illegal in Morocco, as Riad’s should have a Moroccan patent and give you a receipt with their tax identification.
Do never use this Riad.., it is really just not worth it.

Great family holiday in the heart of the medina

Typical Riad close to all places to see in the medina.
Airport shuttle to the riad very convenient when you arrive to be guided to the riad.
Nice welcome.
Breakfast that varies daily, delicious taken on the terrace. The ladies are lovely.
Cleaning done every day.
Children aged 10 and 12 cooled off in the pool.
