A little slice of Paradise
All I can do is I whole heartedly agree with everything that em3927 has written in their previous review.
Staying at Sava Dunes is a unique experience which exceeds all expectations.
We stayed for a week and could honestly have easily stayed longer.
You do wonder where you are going when being driven to the Lodge as you drive through the dunes in a 4x4 passing villages and locals in colourful outfits on the way. But when you arrive the views are breathtaking, the sight of whales breaching in the ocean and the secluded rooms really bring home how special this place is.
You cannot ask for better hosts than Sonette and her husband Jose. On arrival we were immediately made to feel welcome and at home. Over the course of the week we became to feel like friends and when I mentioned my love of Rugby were even invited to join Sonette, her husband and their friends at a local bar to watch South Africa play. (Just as an aside a visit to the SunSet Lounge to watch the sunset is highly recommended).
Mealtime was always memorable with exceptional dishes being served by the ever smiling and attentive Dion, who ensured that our glasses were kept topped up and that we were happy with everything. I can honestly say I can't remember consistently eating this well anywhere else.
A special thank you to Dion who was an ever present during our stay and honestly could not do enough for us, you are a huge asset to Sava Dunes (we also loved the fish you caught).
Sonette and Jose recommended excursions and walks and organised all trips seamlessly. The Pansy Island boat ride was probably our favourite along with the long beach walks.
Thank you to all of you for making our stay so memorable, we will definitely be returning to this slice of paradise.

It’s absolute paradise…
Sava Dunes is one of those rare places that exceeds every expectation. We stayed for 7 nights and left feeling completely recharged, inspired, and honestly, a little sad to go.
The location is unbeatable, set high above the dunes with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and complete seclusion. You wake up to the sound of waves and often spot whales breaching right from your private sun deck.
What made the trip exceptional, though, were our incredible hosts, Sonette and Jose. Their warmth and attention to detail were next level—they helped us organise amazing scuba dives, whale-watching trips, and made sure everything ran seamlessly.
You never feel like a guest here; it feels more like staying with friends who know all the best secrets of Mozambique.
Evenings were always a highlight thanks to Dinissimo’s exceptional barmanship and friendly service, which added an extra layer of charm and relaxation to each day. And the food? Absolutely outstanding. Every meal was packed with fresh seafood, bold flavours, and creative touches—honestly some of the best we’ve had anywhere.
The team works together beautifully and the whole experience is rooted in comfort, nature, and genuine care. It’s hard to imagine a better beach escape. We’ll definitely return!

Very pleasant days
It's like paradise. The privacy, the bungalows with sea views, Sonette and Jack as fantastic hosts, and the entire staff were always very attentive and friendly. The food served is of very high quality and tastes fantastic. I had a wonderful time.

Sand Shells and Seahorses
After a 4 hour drive on pavement and a one hour drive on sand we reached our destination. The view the next morning was well worth it. Walking on the beach provided many shells and crab watching. The food was unbelievable Denissimo was an incredile host making "Mocktails" for us each night. The only challenge is that Mozambique appears to be impoverished and tourism is sparse. We were the only shoppers in the open air market in Tofu which became overwhelming as all the vendors wanted us to buy something

Our patch of paradise
At first we were concerned that we may be too far away from the resorts where all the activities are. Turns out that wasn’t a problem at all. Sonette took care of everything, taxi arrangements, day trips etc. also solved a few travel issues for us.
Food was also so good we never missed the resort areas. This was much more preferable to us being off away from the bustle.
We are considering a return in June or July to see the whales and would definitely stay here again. Such lovely people, great food, staff and location.
