Very mixed feelings - see review for details

The hotel was challenging to drive to: 1/3rd of Amsterdam's canals & bridges are being repaired, apparently simultaneously. Nearby secure underground parking was 'discounted' to €45 a night; on checking out I found it was almost impossible to drive the 300m back to the hotel because of the one way system & roadworks.
Okay, we're checked in; small hotel, friendly & welcoming staff. Tiny room, poorly lit, uncomfortable bed, uncomfortable pillows. Shower is useless for anyone over 1m tall because it doesn't stay up. Good breakfast, but no tea / coffee making facilities in the room.
Great location, easy distance to public transport & short walks to tourist spots. Staff have a list of restaurants including cuisine, walking time & contact details.
We've stayed in Motel One's before & were really looking forward to our stay, so doubly disappointing.
If you haven't been to Amsterdam before, beware! Just like the UK cyclists ignore traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, pedestrians, other road users, junctions, footpaths etc. except here there are tens of thousands of them. Sounds fun? It really isn't.

Clean and efficient

We just returned from a 3 night stay in early August , we arrived early (9am) but fortunately our room was ready so that was a good start . The room was small but very clean and the reception staff were helpful about local restaurants and attractions and even provided us with a map to help us find our way . We had Brekfast included and basically around the side of reception is transformed into a Brekfast buffet , in fairness they make a good effort with the space that they have and there’s plenty to choose from but it’s a real tight squeeze and if you go down after 9 am it’s a struggle to get a seat .There are staff around replenishing the buffet but it appears your left to fight for yourself , maybe a Meet and Greet would help there .As I said the room was clean but in over 30c heat it would be nice to control your own air con , the shower head was turned against the wall and the shampoo / gel was difficult to get out . Just a few observations ! Great cocktails in the bar at night , which is really chilled.

Fine motel

Nice hotel. I was away for the weekend with a friend. It really is a motel so there were no extra facilities. Room was very clean. Unfortunately no kettle or mini bar. The only downside when we came back in the evening and were still thirsty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is close to the metro station and in a nice neighborhood with nice tents 15 min walk.

Geachte Cato,
Motel One Amsterdam-Waterlooplein

Great Hotel

Super nice staff, very friendly and helpful with directions and getting a taxi.
Room is super comfortable (6th floor). We were next to the elevator and never heard it as the room is really quiet.
Great location for a short walk to city center or the Hortus Botanical Garden.
They make a mean Espresso Martini too!!
Would highly recommend this hotel for this area.
