Home Vibes in Amsterdam
First, because whenever I’m surrounded by graffiti, I immediately feel at home :-)
And second, because the international Via Team was incredibly kind, welcoming, and always helpful.
The hostel is huge, with plenty of spaces to play, socialize, relax, or work.
Rooms are minimal but spacious and comfortable, and prices are affordable (for Amsterdam standards).
There isn’t a full kitchen in the traditional sense, but there are microwaves, a kettle, and a fridge available, which makes it easy to manage simple meals without having to eat out all the time.
Even if it’s not in the city center, it’s very well connected by metro (around 15 minutes).
It’s a perfect place for families, big groups (like school trips, etc.), digital nomads, and also for people who want to enjoy the city but come back to a more relaxed area, surrounded by green spaces.
I’ll definitely come back, it felt like home.

The downside were the high bunks and the extremely high level of smoking in front of and around the building. Weeds, cigarettes, vapes, and all sorts of irritating smell every time you step outside the facility. I don’t know why they encourage this. It’s nauseating and I wouldn’t bring kids to this place.

I stayed in a 4-bed dorm, which was fairly relaxed. The beds could be a bit creaky at times, so earplugs are definitely worth bringing. In terms of comfort, they’re basic foam mattresses with clean sheets and a decent blanket—nothing too fancy, but perfectly serviceable for a short stay.
There’s almost always something happening downstairs, which gives the place a lively atmosphere. It’s a great spot if you want to hang out in the lobby, get some work done, or meet new people!
I'd say it was certainly good value for me as a solo traveller, though YMMV of course.

At first my key card didn't seem to work so I went back to the front desk and they helped me quickly. The room was very clean, the workers were friendly and helpful and check out was also fast. Overall I had a great experience and will definitely come back! :)
