Amazing value Comfort Food and drinks

What a fantastic place to stay on the way to the Picton Ferry on the way from Windwhistle in Canterbury
Spacious clean comfortable motel style unit for an extremely modest price
Friendly team great restaurant with very reasonably priced food The ribeye steak from Harris Farms was delicious
Wine prices very reasonable
Excellent place to stay on your journey to Picton

Disappointing

This place needs some serious TLC. The building needs sweeping down, the leaves were knee deep near the main entrance. The food was memorable, but only for its overcooked presentation. Hardly anyone else there.

We were a party of 8 staying in Cheviot for a 2 day trip down memory lane. The Local Trust Hotel seemed like an obvious choice for day 2 evening dining experience (in memory of our dad & grandad who spent many pounds(old currency) and no few happy hours at the bar). The dining experience we were subjected to was very second rate -
• limited choice of meals
• few kitchen staff(although polite & apologetic for delay)
• an hour wait for basic meals
• disinterested/forgetful bar staff
• substandard facilities
• As a dining facility well placed on State Highway one this "Hostelry" has the potential to be a popular and welcoming stopover in a charming little historic township as well as a welcome venue for city day trippers(as I was again in February).

Great value meal.

We were on our way north on New Year’s Day. So few places were open so we were grateful to find a meal. Food was simple pub food but great value for money-huge steak for my husband and chicken burger (with real chicken breast) for me. Quinn, head chef was a delight to talk to and ran the kitchen well. Few staff in bar and restaurant so there was no one to greet or serve us but apart from that a great meal, thank you.

Great Pitstop on your Road trip!

Called in for a counter lunch on our roadtrip south to Christchurch. Very friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere and delicious meals. Put us both in a food coma for a few hours before headed back oun our Campervan roadtrip.
