This family hotel is truly a gem.
This family hotel is truly a gem.
Due to the limited number of rooms (ca 14) the Service is very personal.
The double rooms are modern, spacious and clean. Walk-in (rain) shower with 2 nozzles. Air conditioning available. The rooms have a nice balcony, half of which overlooks the garden with swimming pool.
Oh yeah, that pool, also a beautiful facility.
Sun loungers, umbrellas and towels are amply stocked. And if you need shade there is a spacious covered terrace, located against the breakfast room.
Breakfast is buffet style but everything you need is there, with a little surprise every day (fried egg, etc)
The small bar is open until 10 pm. You can buy all kinds of drinks (by room number) at a very reasonable price.
Walking distance to Lake Ohrid. less than 5 minutes.
Walking distance to downtown and old town. 20 to 30 minutes.
And then the hostess and host. They do everything, with the staff, to give you a super stay. Always willing to chat and very cordial and helpful. Heartwarming.
In short: highly recommended.

Enjoy a quiet and cheap holiday, with good food and friendly people.
Zoran & Natali
After 2 years back at Villa Kotlar. Zoran & Natali are really super nice people.
They are very involved with us and our kids. If you have a question or want to see something of the area they have all kinds of ideas. They'll take care of everything for you.
Breakfast
Breakfast is fine. There is a different variation of a dish every day where eggs are a base. For example scrambled egg or fried egg or an egg and cheese sandwich. This depends on the day. There are always white and brown sandwiches available and there are always vegetables such as cucumber tomato. As fruit, there is often watermelon. Spreads and the like can also be found at the counter.
Hotel rooms
The hotel rooms are spacious, clean and a fine bed. The rooms have air conditioning and a rain shower. Also a small balcony with a table and two chairs where you can relax in the evening. There is also a drying rack mounted on the rail of the balcony where you can hang some clothes pieces or towels. Clothes pegs can be requested from the staff.

Swimming pool
Pool is really super. It is clean, not too deep and for our eldest the best entertainment. There are sunbeds but you will find a bed in time if you want to lie on the front sides of the pool. The umbrellas are easy to adjust so you can continue to enjoy the shade.
Back garden
Behind the pool is a garden where you can sit under two canopies to enjoy the peace and shade. Also an ideal place to put a blanket where your children can play with toys (which you bring yourself). There's not usually many people here.
Location Villa Kotlar:
With your back to the hotel you can walk right to the lake. This is +- 150 meters. If you walk right through the gate along the lake you have a beach. Many local people and the restaurant of Mizo is fine for just a snack or evening meal.
Crossroads at the hotel
If you were to turn left (with your back to the hotel) you would come to a crossroads. Cross diagonally left and you have a delicious, cheap local bakery. If you walk to the right at the intersection, you actually walk to the center at once (+-15 min walk) provided you just follow the road. You will walk through the Turkish street to the center. Walk to the castle
While walking along this road you can also find a branch of the road towards the castle which is on the mountain. +-20 min after the moment you leave the road. There are several branches that eventually lead to the castle. This is a really nice view over the lake. In addition, there is plenty to see.
Turkish street
The restaurant Vkusno is highly recommended if you want to enjoy simple but especially tasty meat / fish dishes with patience. Istanbul is a nice place where you can drink Turkish tea with the view of the street where people walk past.
Centrum
If you continue along this road you will reach a small square with a supermarket, pin options and on your right the road towards the center to the lake.
Playground
If you have kids, the playground is also recommended. The playground is located by the lake. In addition, you have all kinds of tents to get a snack or something.
Excursions
In addition, various excursions are available. You can also arrange these locally separately from TUI, for example. There is even a possibility to fish.
Monastery Winery
The wine tasting location is +- 20 minutes drive towards the interior. Delicious wines with matching flavors of food. Nice and relaxed and in a beautiful location with passionate people who can talk about various wines for hours.
Fishing
This was a lot of fun! The person who accompanied me as a guide attached a camera to the fishing line so you can see them gasping for the bait. Fish, of course, go back to the water.
Good food,
A number of good restaurants can be found via tripadvisor. Find the restaurants which are located by the water for a nice view. Recommendations from our experience include the Kaneo restaurant and the Kajche restaurant. Here you can eat carp or the well discussed Ohrid trout.
In summary
Villa Kotlar is a hotel which is recommended. Ohrid is a quiet location with friendly people. Food is good and the local currency rate is also favorable against the euro. You can eat well extensively for little money. It's safe and there's plenty to do.

Good breakfast, spacious rooms, good beds, clean, air conditioning. Nice and small.
Lovely pampered there. Owners had nice tips, if you ask for them.
But 15 min walk to old town.
1st impression then slightly less in terms of location but this was quickly over. Never felt unsafe at any time.
Bakery and neighborhood super around the corner for lunch.

Definitely worth repeating.

This place is beautiful The hosts are great, food is good and rooms are comfortable and clean. We fell in love with Macedinia and people, and we will come here again to Villa Kotlar definately

prima,schoon hotel
+ zeer schoon,nieuw ,gastvrije mensen, mooi zwembad,redelijk ontbijt. goede fietsen te huur voor 3 euro per dag, goed bed en douche. kwartiertje lopen naar centrum.
- te weinig ligstoelen, bij ontbijt mogen ook wel eens broodjes ipv alleen boterhammen die je in broodrooster eetbaar moet maken.en er is geen lift.
