An amazing night - staff fantastic!

We went here to look for the northern lights, we had the best time! When we arrived we were taken to have some history about the lodge, lots of information and photos. The staff member was a young French lady with excellent English and very enthusiastic. Then we were lucky enough to be told the lights were outside! Very magical! The staff also willing to take photos.
We were then treated to hot drinks and snacks followed by a short walk to meet the Huskies they were lovely very friendly and loved all the attention. Again all the staff were kind and answered questions whilst telling us about the huskies.
We had a magical time and thank you to all the staff who made it possible - I will never forget it.

Room okay, restaurant horrible

The room was okay, not luxury, but ok. The restaurant and food was not that, what we suggest. You will habe no card by table and have to order in standing before a screen, where we Swiss People has to tranlsate the norwegian text (was there english text? I dont know yet) by handy. Even when I asked the person behind the bar, they couldnt explain us, what we want to know. For a salad you have to order and pay salad sauce extra. The folk behind the bar didnt realize and ask us, if we want a sauce. As wie realized and ordered it, we didnt get salat sauce, but instead a mayonaisse sauce. Never ever eat again here.

Snowmobile experience

On Friday February 20th 2026 we had booked a snowmobile ride in combination with ice fishing.
Our guide Marion helped us put on all the necessary clothing (feeling temperature on the plateau -36°), explained how the snowmobile worked, and so on.
We enjoyed the ride, enjoyed the fishing even though we didn’t catch anything and enjoyed the hot meal Marion had prepared for us.
As a bonus on the drive back we spotted a moose in the forest.
We had a great time and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Thank you Marion for your excellent guidance. You are the best

Amazing lodge right next to the action in Arctic Norway

We stayed at the Gargia Lodge in Dec '25. Despite some bad weather and clouds (even with projected Kp values as low as 1) we got multiple nights of lovely northern lights viewing, right outside our cabin doors. In fact we could check the sky through the window - and just step out when it was clear & sure enough there would be a show to see soon after. Multiple activities (dog sledding, snowmobiles etc) into the Bæskades plateau start right at the lodge... and we had an even better light show with a snowmobile trip to the plateau. The location was very important especially on bad weather days - we had two days where we had to cancel long drives due to bad coastal weather and closures on E6/E69 and it was easy to stay around Gargia Lodge to do short hikes and snowshoeing. In contrast, if you are in Alta city (or perhaps even Tromso) with that weather, you are pretty much stuck indoors. The unique topography of the area around Gargia Lodge means that even with strong cloud cover, it was possible to drive out either north, south or east to find additional activities in pockets of clear weather (ChatGPT and Windy are helpful). The best part of the lodge is perhaps the staff. Very pleasant and always eager to help - without being intrusive !
