Best Base camp for Trekkers

Greatest hosts and very nice vibe. Thank you so much Paul for everything. Rooms are comfortable and clean too. They organized treks for a very cheap price and rented stuff. Very good value for the rooms. Extremely helpful and friendly staff, not pushy and honest.
Laundry and nice dinner can be purchased for reasonable price. Ended up staying 15 days.
They also gave an extra breakfast and room to wait in for free when we checked in early at 6am.

OK

For the staff, I would give 5 stars. Very nice, friendly, helpful people. Lots of trekking information and recommendations for beyond the area. You can store luggage with them for days at no cost.
The dorm room was OK. Enough space and lockers provided. Breakfast was standard with an extra crepe or something else thrown in. There is a selection of DVDs if you want to watch a movie. laundry service. Wifi is only available in the reception area but even there I couldn't get working internet. the hostel cleanliness could be better. The showers and the common area downstairs, they did not appear to be cleaned at all during our 3 days stay. There is a kitchen available for use but poorly equipped. And the fridge needed a good clean out.

Homey Hostel

Returning to Caroline Lodging after going on treks gave me a great feeling. The owners Anita and Paul were always extremely helpful and friendly. There were good places to hang out within the hostel, and breakfast was yummy and different each day! Would definitely recommend.

Worth it to operate in the region!

A budget backpacker well-known by the 'Guide du Routard' owners, so a lot of French people (great to meet people to hike with). The accomodation is really affordable and the breakfast is generous and tasty - we could even enjoy it early in the morning, when we arrived from Lima.
Paul has a lot of insight and recommendations on the hikes in the area - whether you go on a tour through them or by yourself.
Eventhough some work could be done on the place (specifically regarding the kitchen cleanliness and equipment), I believe the lodge is totally worth it to operate in the region!

Great place to stay

If you are looking for a good place to stay, with cheap prices, breakfast included, trekking information, and a free haircut (if needed) this is the place to stay. I stayed with my boyfriend for about a month while we did lots of hiking in the area and Paul and Anita and all the staf were always helpful and friendly. Breakfast is always filling, and includes an additional pancake or smoothie. I also asked for a recommendation for a place to get a haircut in town and Anita was so kind to just give me a free (and super cute) haircut right at the lodge. They always had a private room available when we came back from our treks, and were happy to let us store our stuff in their luggage room for more than a week at a time. There are tons of French speaking people here, which I didn't mind because my boyfriend is French, so he could translate, but if you are looking for interacting a lot with guests, and don't know French, maybe think about that. It wasn't a negative for me though, I'm a fan :D
