Cosy, personalized service in an easy location

We loved staying at La Chocita. Friendly and helpful staff who gave us every tip and answered all our questions (Gracias Mauro!). The location is a quiet residential area very close to many transit options. La Chocita is a home away from home, I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to visit Lima and have a good night's sleep after those long days exploring! Very clean and comfortable.

Hidden gem

We found out about Alicia's guest house, La Chocita Ward, through a friend of a friend at our home in Canada. When we emailed her they were in the middle of renovations but she told us to come anyways. It is a charming old family owned house. There were always interesting family to talk to, and light breakfasts were provided. It was easy enough to get around taking taxis and buses. The neighbourhood felt safe enough to come home in the dark but we never stayed out too late because we don't know the area. Alicia have very helpful tips for how to get around and what to see. Highly recommend this lovely home!

Changes at La Chocita Ward

The location of this facility remains excellent in my opinion, it is away from the touristy areas but it is very conveniently located in a residential area walking distance (1 block) from Avenida Brasil and Javier Pardo Oeste in Magdalena del Mar. However, I did not realize the guest house is associated with several outfits like Trip Advisor and made my reservation directly with La Chocita Ward, but when I arrived, it was something of a surprise to the staff. Plus, the prices have gone up, but there was no improvement in the facility that I could detect. I was there a week and my room was cleaned once, only by request. By this time rooms could have been painted and updated to reflect the rise in prices, plus there seemed to be a more distant attitude from staff where they used to be very friendly and warm. There appeared to be a family member present who apparently held a hard line. The staff could not tell me the exact price of the room until they called their boss in Canada and while the breakfast options appears economical in USD, it is expensive by Peru standards. I was surprised no one saw me off the day I left, even though I told them I would be leaving at 6PM, so there was no one around to call a taxi, I had to march myself off to the corner and flag one down, luggage and all, something is amiss. WIFI is available, but it does not carry to the top floor, plus there is no TV in the rooms, but work was on the way to install cable access.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are very sorry that your experience was not to the standards you rightly expect from La Chocita. Our mission is to provide great value for our guests in a warm and friendly atmosphere. And of course we’re always keen to learn where we may be going wrong so we can do better next time. We did have a temporary staff member working when you stayed, but we also have staff who love to serve guests to the best of their abilities and we will make sure they are able to do this in the future. We did increase our prices by two dollars per night to mildly offset a plumbing overhaul that had to be made. The house now has brand new plumbing and good water pressure. We will work hard to improve the quality of the service we provide and hope you'll be able to return.

My best find in Lima Peru

This place is a guest house and the rooms are on the 3rd floor of the private house located in a residential street in the Magdalena del Mar district. The location was great, 1 block away from the corner of Avenida Brazil and Javier Prado. The location is on the border of a very nice upscale neighbood and there is night time surveillance/security at the corner of the street. Both major streets have plenty of public transportation and within walking distance is the district center of La Magdalena, a vibrant small town shopping area. The house is a secure large house with touches of art deco, probably from the 30's. Candi, the hostess was super friendly and helpful, I really appreciated the attention and concern she gave. Breakfast is extra, but only costs $4US, and the room was $27US a night. The room was smallish, but adequate for one person, clean and comfortable. In the living room there is a computer and wifi modem, but the signal was weak in the room. What impressed me was the location and what was available nearby, I spent most of the 3 days I was there out in the streets. While you can hear traffic during the day an evening, it does quiet down at night. There is no TV in the room, but I was too tired to watch TV anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here as I avoid touristy places when I travel. I spoke to the owner on the phone, she lives in Vancouver, and told her the place was great for me, but that there should be more advertising as probably few people know about this place.

An inexpensive gem

My husband and I lucked out when we discovered this charming family-run hotel. The rooms were comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel staff arranged for a taxi to pick us up and to deliver us back to the airport at the end of our stay, a convenience we really appreciated. The hotel is on a quiet side street not far from a major artery where taxis were readily available to take us anywhere in Lima we wished to go. At $27.00 per room, each with a double bed, table & chair, dresser and 3 piece washroom, this place was a bargain! Breakfast was available for an extra $4 per person and consisted of a variety of delicious fruits, avocados, cheese, bread rolls, coffee, tea and juice. Eggs and other items like cereal and milk were also provided if requested. As guests, we were welcome to use the computers and to watch TV or simply relax in the common areas; the dining room, living room and terrace. We definitely recommend La Chocita Ward to anyone wishing to visit Lima since it provided us with everything we needed for an enjoyable stay.
