We enjoyed our stay here and we felt secured on the tour as well. Their 'Egg omelette with bread toasts' is highly recommended. The host is generous as you can also refill your drinking water at the hotel. The water shower has a working heater. They provided towels (but not toiletries). The tour guide helped us hike and was very patient with our slow pace. He even carried my backpack for me and lent me his trekking pole. The guide also took and suggested a lot of photos and videos for the tourists wherein the host would be sending the soft copies to their guests through Viber.

Booking by mail probably too uncertain or ask in advance

I had booked by email in May 2025 and sent the passports for booking the Pinatubo Tour or the permit. I had also received the definite confirmation by mail that the rooms and the tour are booked. When we arrived in January 2026 with the rental car from Manila we were stopped by the military post and asked for permission. Unfortunately we had not received anything from the accommodation until then. With immediate tel. Question told Mr Allan he did not know about the booking. When I resent the mail with his promise he said he had unfortunately forgotten. As a replacement we were accommodated in a hotel that looked very nice, but there was neither food nor drink. My failure to ask again a few weeks before the trip will probably not happen to me again.

To do... with a couple of tips

Balai Hermogina (where we slept before leaving for the tour), very pretty with clean and ready to use pool. Traditional rooms with “so-so” bathroom.
Remember that to make the excursion you must book at least 7 days in advance.
Wake up early (4:15) to go to the “hermogina house”, the place where the jeep will pick you up: 1. advice, if you want open jeeps, clarify well first, otherwise “what comes comes comes”.
2. Tip: Remember the papers, having to enter a military zone they will check well.
Journey of about 1.5 hours d 1 hour walk (easy) to get to the lake / crater... TOP!!
3. tip: when you return cover your mouth well, there will be a lot of dust!!
Strong point: traditional hike to do also because the landscapes are WOW!
To be improved: I advise the organizers to propose the purchase of “tubes” to put on the face for dust. At 250 pesos, with the words mt pinatubo, it would also be a beautiful gadget!

For those of you interested in trekking a volcano, Mount Pinatubo Base Camp at Casa Hermogina is a small simple rustic ancestral home that opened its doors to travelers after Tarlac was decimated by the eruption. Staying here is the perfect experience of what true honest Philippine hospitality is like. From coordinating your accommodations and private tour of the crater, visitors feel the utmost care and concern showed by the owner, Allan from the start. The non flashy yet flavorful home cooked meals make you nostalgic for your grandmother's kitchen. I've traveled all over the world and stayed in various hotels and resorts, Casa Hermogina has the cleanest smelling towels and linens I have ever encountered. And their kind courteous staff from Driver Jay, Guide Nardo, Masseuse Lani, and the adorable server Karen provides the perfect service that makes your stay in this 9 roomed bed and breakfast even more memorable. It's tiny. It's cozy. It's clean. It's affordable. And the welcome you get is heartfelt. And if I can do the Pinatubo Trek, so can you.

At foot of Mt. Pinatubo !!

First stayed here in 2016; returned in 2018; about to go back again as soon as the Philippines opens again... as of April 2021. Its very quiet here; your choice of authentic nipa rooms with air con, or more western rooms. He can arrrange for your trip to the Crate Lake; Land Cruiser will pick you up in front of the B and B; great food and very inexpensive... no need to travel anywhere once you unpack and relax. Karaoke available anytime. Quiet evenings !
