A real upholding quality of stay at Malapascua

Have been in Malapascua four times and my first time to stay with BV. Overall, love the cleanliness and protectiveness of the staff. Pictures shown at her webpage is exactly the same as reality.
Room size: just right. The room comes with a spacious “balcony” area.
Amenities: very thoughtful to offer a fan and mosquito repellent (spray and mosquito coil) at the balcony.
✅ hair-dryer
✅ water kettle
✅ power strip - important for divers
Service: staff are proactive and friendly.
✅ small piece of cakes are provided every night
✅ packed sandwich with choice of boiled egg, banana or mango for early dives
Overall, very comfortable stay. For sure will continue to book Buena Vida for my next visits. Compare to my previous 3 stays at Malapascua Legend, overall quality of stay wins over the swimming pool facility.

Unsure how to rate.

Was to stay 3 nights but due to Cyclone and possibility of being stranded on island only stayed one night. Room had two twin beds and very nice balcony with hammock, couch and chairs. You face an inside wooded area with other rooms. Chickens are very loud in the morning. Shower is nice, shampoo and body wash provided, no conditioner. Beds were small and a bit shaky, also bed on right you had to move to get at plug to try and charge your electronics. We only slept there one night but I awoke with a tingly sensation in my hand which ended up turning into about 20 welts. It was the hand I sleep on under my pillow so unsure what bug got me (bedbugs, ants, ?) But since it didn't appear till after we left the island that day I couldn't look at the bed and try and figure it out. I know there were ants in the room since you could see them coming under the door but if it was ants I would think more than just my hand would have been bit. It is about a 6 minute walk to their breakfast and dive shop. We didn't dive with them or have breakfast due to early morning dive with Evolution. We did have dinner once and lunch once at Ocean Vida which was excellent. Didn't get to enjoy any of the amenities due to our short stay here.

Cockroach

Positive: clean comfy bed, nice bathroom, complimentary water, polite staff, zen ambiance
Negative:
There was a live cockroach in bathroom on our first day. It’s the first time this has happened in any hotel I’ve stayed in the Philippines.
We do not leave the door open and window is screened. So it must have been there before we arrived. Could be if door was left open by cleaning crew or last guest.

Buena Vida: The Best a 3-Star Hotel Can Offer

Buena Vida truly offers the best experience you can expect from a 3-star hotel. Keep in mind that Malapascua is a remote island, and almost everything has to be brought in from outside. Despite this, the resort does an excellent job of creating a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere with its chill and calming Buddha-inspired decorations.  
The entire island is covered in sand, and while the staff at Buena Vida work tirelessly to keep the property as clean as possible, you should expect some sand to find its way indoors, even into your room. This is just part of the island experience. Additionally, the tap water is slightly salty, so I recommend using the drinking water provided by the hotel for brushing your teeth.  
The staff here are absolutely wonderful—super friendly, attentive, and helpful. A lovely touch is the small piece of cake they prepare for guests each evening, which makes you feel truly cared for.  
If the resort could upgrade their mattresses and pillows to something more comfortable, it would be perfect. With that improvement, I would happily give this place 5 stars and visit Malapascua more often!
