Would have been 5 stars, had the spa incident not happened!

I was extremely blessed to have a surprise booked for me for my birthday by my family.
We had lunch at the hotel restaurant; the food was beautifully presented, it was fresh and lovely. I chose steak tatar and the egg was so fresh it poured over the steak perfectly. The cocktails whilst presented on a slightly tacky looking menu were lovely. The waiting staff were attentive- the waiter changed shifts midway through our lunch and came to tell us that he was leaving and that his colleague would be taking over, which was a nice touch. My family also organised me a beautiful fresh fruit and cream cake which tasted divine and was presented beautifully.
The decor was really impressive , a powder blue with traditional dark wood. It was impeccably clean.
After that, they surprised me with a horse and carriage ride through the town and surrounding countryside. The horses were beautifully turned out, well muscled with a beautiful top line whilst the ladies were extremely knowledgeable about horses, the different disciplines and I would have no qualms about taking a lesson from them or going out on a hack. The riding facilities are on a par if not of a better standard than what you will find abroad. The ride was lovely and the horses were well behaved.
After that I was surprised with an alpaca walk with Olaf and Nel, their 2 young alpacas, that was an amazing experience. I did it with my 11 year old niece and it was so much fun. They are stubborn little creatures but as the lady advised us, rub them on the front of the neck and they will yield , and they did.
They also have a small zoo which is full of alpacas, emus, birds , rabbits , goats, deer and sheep, to name what we saw. They are all beautifully looked after and very happy.
The only let down was the spa treatments that my sister surprised us with. I chose the ‘Serca Natury’ or ‘Heart of Nature,’ with a masseuse/therapist called Sandra. Sandra was terrible. She ruined the surprise. This particular therapist was the most clueless individual working in a spa that I have ever had the misfortune of coming across. There was no interaction on her side apart from her telling me her name. Not once did she ask whether I was comfortable, what she was about to do- I could have rubbed oil on my legs myself at home, she didn’t massage my arms or neck area which is the area I needed most , and didn’t ask me once if I was comfortable or offer to fill the head hole or support my neck. I was so angry by the end of it, something I have never been at the end of a spa treatment. It really was a waste of time and money!
The other members of my family were happy with their treatments and the spa did offer to rectify the situation but it was too late, the surprise had been ruined. This caused a lot of upset as my sister had planned this months ago on what would have otherwise been a perfect afternoon filled with magical things. It’s caused a lot of upset even after we got home as it really should have been perfect and as the birthday girl I felt it was a complete waste of money.
Overall, it is a fabulous place to go with family or as a couple and there is plenty to keep you occupied, if you like bicycle rides you can rent a bicycle and cycle out in the Polish countryside.
Had sloppy Sandra and her shockingly bad attempt at doing a massage not occurred, it would have been 5 stars plus as the review. My mum and my niece absolutely raved about their treatments, my sister too but they had different therapists for theirs.

Wedding at Palac Mortegi

Had our wedding at Palac Mortegi over 3 days in June 2019. Beautiful location, excellent food and service. The palace itself is beautifully restored and the grounds are immaculately kept with lots to do for all ages. Food and service was excellent whether a full formal dinner, relaxed lunch or late breakfast. The rooms in the palace itself are stunning - all amenities, wifi, period décor without being shabby. Bar and restaurant available throughout the day. The spa was clean and well equipped. Zoo, playground and boating lake for the youngsters. The location is a little off the beaten track but the staff were excellent at organizing transport to the nearest train station (about 25 km away). In general the staff were attentive, efficient and flexible and had no problem with English. The prices were very reasonable for what you actually get and the general sense of luxury that the place imparts. Recommended highly for a stay or if you have a function to organize in this part of Poland.
