The hotel is OK. Staff are quite unfriendly and not forthcoming with information. Pool is small and get completely dominated by families with screaming kids. Not relaxing to lay by the pool. Room and breakfast were nice

Too much noise

Very good concept. Very well-maintained hotel. Well-designed bungalow where nothing is missing. Nothing to say about the cleanliness. However, because there is an important point, the location is not at all wise. On the edge of a very busy road, and it is normal because it is the only one. Incessant noise from cars and trucks right next to the bungalows, from very early in the morning (starting at 5:30 AM) until very late in the evening. It is impossible to settle down in the evening to watch TV with the window open. And in addition to the traffic, the honking of cars and trucks is bothersome because of the dangerous turn just below. So if you are looking for peace, this is not the right place. It is even stressful. Why choose this location? It ruins everything. What a shame.
And to top it off, the gardeners come to mow under the windows at 8:30 AM.
Is this normal? And what about the customer?

We are a family of 5 with 3 kids under 12. We visited in March and it was very quiet/serene. Portovella has a beautiful view of the Douro. Riverside walk is just several steps down a hill. Photos don’t do it justice because it is so breathtaking in person. The comfort suite was the perfect size with 2 bathroom ensuites and a powder room. View from the suite was incredible. Just plan ahead if you’re staying on a Sunday as many restaurants were closed but we found a gem in Cinfaes - Sabores e Memorias where husband and wife cook for you and welcome you in. The pool was not yet open unfortunately since it was March but would have been an incredible view. There’s also a kids playground set which helps for the little ones and a small little fish pond. The property has beautiful lemon and orange trees. A full and delicious warm breakfast was served directly to your door. A very peaceful stay! Highly recommend.

Very good stay

Great stay in Portovella.
Quiet place, with a very beautiful view and a great pool!
Kitchen with good equipment, but could be a little better.
Very good to explore the Douro
