A perfect place in Funchall
Everything was perfect from the beginning of our 3 nights stay until the end. Perfect and quiet rooms, arranged with taste, top-quality breakfast, different everyday with home-made jams and local products, plus the various preparations mastered by Jochen (hidden in his kitchen).
Very well located in Funchall (walking distance of the center), quiet, and such a nice outside set-up for relaxing at the end of the day when the weather allowed it.
We loved it and recommend the place for anyone who likes cosy, charming and original places.
To be noticed : we always easily found a spot to park our rented car nearby when coming back of our trails in the island.
Special thanks to Heike for the wise recommendations, and her warm smile at any time. And of course a special pat to Ginger !

QB = Quite Breathtaking!
I'm sure it has been said by many previous guests, but from the moment we arrived it was an experience of pure joy - elevated beyond all our expectations by the genuine and immensely warm welcome from Heike, coupled of course, with a glass of Madeira wine, gorgeous surroundings inside and out, and the most beautiful, stylish and sophisticated spotless rooms.
Breakfast deserves a special mention. Delivered on a tiered platter (like an Afternoon Tea), we were served a bountiful selection of fruits, yogurt, homemade jams, honey, syrups, cheeses, meats, breads, rice pudding, salads (rice, beetroot, carrot, fennel, beans...) and homemade, delicious cakes. I must also mention that every day, the selection of all the above was slightly different, and with each individual item we learned of its provenance, whether it be a locally produced honey or a cheese from the Azores. In addition, there was an egg dish offering to choose from and I particularly loved the frittata!
The Guest Information booklet too was brilliantly put together, giving suggestions for attractions to visit, local restaurants to try, walking and jogging routes etc. all clearly mapped out so we could easily get our bearings.
Heike and Jochen are clearly incredibly passionate about and proud of Quinta B and rightly so; it is their home too after all. Together with their small but dedicated team, they have beautifully created a haven of tranquillity and relaxation beyond compare and we applaud them all for their hard work, and for their values and principles which underpin it all.
We will have many long-lasting memories of a truly amazing experience here in Funchal at Quinta B and without doubt, we will be back!

5* for breakfast, views, comfort and access to restaurants
This lovely small (4 rooms), very well appointed B&B has rightly received excellent reviews. We stayed in the Porto Santo room for 4 nights in November 2022. A very comfortable room and bed, en-suite with rain shower, safe, lots hanging space and drawers, Socket and light switch near bed for phone charging.
Breakfasts - wow!, laid out like an afternoon tea tray: top layer fruit pieces and cake; middle - butter, homemade jams or local honey or sugar cane syrup, yoghurt; bottom layer cheeses, ham or chorizo, tiny fresh salad, all accompanied by fresh bread rolls, and omelette or eggs if ordered the night before. Great coffee, with refills, freshly squeezed orange juice. Outside terrace with views over the harbour with a small pool, a stroke or push to the other end, but great to cool you down on a hot day, even in November, ample sitting areas for guests. Views - from front terrace to the sea, port, city to the west with cable car, great place to watch cruise ships arrive or depart. Location - surprisingly peaceful,
5 minutes’ walk from old town with lots of restaurants and cafés. Easy access to city centre for buses and excursions. We used bus 29 - an amazing trip in itself, €1.95 skilfully driven up countless hairpin bends to a levada walk along to the Jasmine tea house at 600 metres or more above sea level.
Note this b&b has lots of steps at the entrance so if you have mobility difficulties then it probably isn’t for you. Recommended? Yes 100%
