Excellent hotel, well located and with Marriott's quality standards. This was the first Marriott Hotel in the Middle East, at times when Saudi Arabia was a much more traditional and conservative country than it is today. Rooms are spacious but not luxurious. Windows are narrow, as they used to be in Saudi buildings until the early 2000s. However, the hotel is very comfortable and the staff are all super friendly. I will chose this hotel again for future stays.

Grand Outdated Hotel

This is an impressive hotel in appearance and in style considering its age. The luxurious marble and hardwood finish out throughout the common areas still looks stately and refined even after all these decades.
The numerous staff are extremely friendly, helpful and courteous and prepared to address every need to say the least.
The large open great common lobby seating area is impressive even though the seating has given way to style rather than actual comfort, like in so many other hotels globally unfortunately…
The large and varied breakfast buffet is very impressive and good tasting to satisfy multi-cultural needs. However the baked goods and fruit stations even though varied and impressive in their array of variety, have unfortunately fallen to standardized mass produced prepackaged quality products.
On a more important note, more attention needs to be paid to the hot foods sections actual temperatures while on display as some of the foods that were meant to be served hot were actually at room temperatures, and this several times. This may eventually rapidly cause food spoilage and if not at worse, possible pathogens and food-borne contaminations and illnesses, which I did not experience to be clear.
The hotel’s interior finish-out is past due to receive a good and proper modern facelift, remodel and upgrade. Numerous of the common area walls, ceilings, carpeting and trim finish-out show signs of the year’s wear-and-tear and or damages. An other example is the floor expansion joints between the building structures which have created 3cm to 5cm humps under the hallway carpeting causing possible trips and falls which need to be addressed for patron safety reasons.
The 6th floor access hallway to the Royal Suite and Club needs repairs, with apparent damages to the ceiling. The Club elevator never functioned during my 5 day stay and the narrow staircase up to the Club Room is not handicap accessible nor practical nor of high quality & standard to say the least. The Club is mostly furnished with older relaxing low chairs with low tables when the majority of the time the Club is empty except for meal times when it is over occupied and at overcapacity by patrons wanting to eat but only being able to use very few actual dining height tables and chairs.
The temporary gym downstairs is very well equipped, spacious, well ventilated and practical to use. Hopefully the new gym and pool areas being remodeled will be even better.
The actual room was spacious and quiet and finished-out with quality furnishings and materials, even-though old and outdated. The bathroom sink hot water barely had any water coming out of the faucet and took some time to become hot and at a very extremely unacceptable low volume flow of water. The clean but old style enamel bathtub with partially hinged glass panel allowed water to leak all over the bathroom floor when taking a shower. Thereby having to lay towels on the bathroom floor to absorb the water runoff. The bathtub bottom was simple enamel finish making it extremely slippery when wet and even more so with soap. However, when asked, the hotel did provide a proper rubber bathtub mat to prevent slippage and possible injury. Also, the room hvac never functioned and the room temperature was always too warm at 24c to sleep comfortably. As well as the mattress being too soft and even lumpy at places unfortunately creating many sleepless nights.
Don’t get me wrong this is an excellent hotel!! However this hotel can become so much more with proper attention to details and upgrades..

Beautiful and comfortable experience. The food is delicious and carefully prepared, the coffee is excellent in quality and temperature, and the juices are fresh and refreshing. The service is fast and generous, the staff is helpful and caring about guest comfort. The ambience of the restaurant is peaceful and suitable for relaxation or work. Good experience and recommended.

Very nice stay

Impressive hotel with a nice lobby area which is wide and open. We had good sized room on the third floor with nice bed and decent shower. Only downside the room had small one window. Great breakfast with very wide range food and overall good service. And of course huge tv screen for watching football.
Location in old part, metro is about 10 minute walk away so that is a great option as traffic is bad in Riyadh. Nice conference area in the hotel. Was not cheap but still good.
