very good overall

I stayed 3 nights at this hotel which was very good in terms of its location and price. The room was of a decent size and very clean although it would be nice if they provided a hair dryer. The hotel is a stone's throw from the cathedral and about 15-20 minutes walk to the pier to Goree Island and the train station.
Slight communication problems with reception as I don't speak French. It would've been helpful if they kept some maps of the downtown area. There are cafes and restaurants nearby. I would recommend this hotel in Dakar.

Horrible to flee unjustified stars

Run away! The best thing to do is to sleep in a hotel with fewer stars because they are not justified!! I am stunned by the non-capacity to receive people we arrived yesterday having taken 2 rooms at the beginning of the day and the disaster ... firstly not complete room (no towels in the 2 rooms and double all the floor rooms very safe for other guests...)
None of the windows of this hotel close!!! Our balcony was communicating with others then opening the sheets... to vomit .... ah yes and my mother-in-law got stuck in the toilet of her room as soon as the arrival not really it was hotel is a total masquerade and I intend to make sure that no guest undergo what we went through, and I pass you the details (the screws left on the ground after changing the barrel with all the debris), all in 2h time! The 3 stars of shame you don't really deserve them, we couldn't change hotels for lack of space and had to sleep on towels over our sheets, no compensation on the room rate... and a price on the shuttle to the airport that increases by 5000 FCFA compared to the receptionist and it's not a shuttle but a classic taxi!!!! I will not fail to speak to who has the right to denounce your inhuman actions

Good location but a number of problems with the hotel

The hotel is an hour from the new airport. Most of the staff do not speak English. The main (fat male) receptionist while we were there for 2 nights was unfriendly and not helpful. The location is good, close to restaurants and attractions. When we arrived the trashcan in the bathroom had trash in it, including a banana peel. They had left open a small window in the bathroom which let in mosquitoes. The bed was very hard and the bed cover had large stains on it. There was no soap in the dispenser in the shower. The next morning we complained about these problems: they put soap in the dispenser, still did not empty the trash, and removed the stained bed cover but did not replace it, so we had to ask for a new bed cover. When we went down to breakfast the first morning the elevator door would not open because the elevator did not stop level with the floor. We finally had to force the door open to get out. We had breakfast both mornings in a glassed-in area at the front of the hotel, facing a busy street. The breakfast was good, although there are no options, and the setting was fine since it was behind glass.

Fair Price and Good Location

My stay at Hotel du Plateau was good, especially considering the price and excellent location. The room was clean and provided Wi-Fi, hot water, and A/C. The location was within walking distance of many restaurant, sights, and the ferry to Goree Island.
Reception was ok based on who was working. The receptionist working during my departure called a taxi for me, of which the driver was his friend. I had to wait for his friend to finish praying and he wouldn't negotiate on the price. I tried to hail a taxi on my own but the receptionist kept insisting that his friend was on his way and suggested that hailing a taxi on my own could be dangerous. Other people working the reception were much more friendly and accommodating. They also stored my bag for me during the day after checking out.
Overall, this place is a nice basic hotel with a fair price and great location.

Avoid At All Costs - They Ripped Me Off!!

I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights in March 2023 for a business trip. I booked it through Hotels.com and paid for the full stay in advance, at a cost of over £300.
When me and my colleague arrived at the hotel it was after midnight and we had been travelling for more than 15 hours. When I tried to check in the man on reception told us they had no rooms available. I tried to explain that I'd already booked and paid for the stay in advance, I showed him my confirmation email and payment receipt, but he just shrugged his shoulders and said "hotel full"
This meant we were then stood on a dark side street in downtown Dakar after midnight, with all our baggage and no accommodation.
Thankfully I managed to find another hotel by myself, no thanks to the staff the staff at Du Plateau who were rude, unhelpful and completely disinterested in the situation we were in.
When I got back to the UK I told Hotels.com what happened expecting a swift full refund at the very least. They tried to speak to the Hotel Du Plateau on a few occasions over the course of the next 2 weeks, but ultimately it was a waste of time, the Hotel Du Plateau refused to process a refund.
They took my money, and gave no services in return, they left us out on the street with no help or advice regarding finding alternative accommodation, and then refused to give me my money back.
If this was in the UK I would be seeking legal advice to get my money back, but as this is Africa, I feel that option isn’t available, so I have written this experience off as a lesson learned.
Do yourself a favour, do not stay at this hotel.
