Way overpriced for what you get

I really wanted to love Seku Bi. A friend in Dakar had recommended it and it is centrally located, completely cut off from the craziness of Dakar, with wonderful contemporary art and a lovely garden. But it's just not run very well. We arrived early and they gave us access to a room to shower -- but our room was not available till 6 pm because they let the previous guest have late checkout. Then a privacy shade in the bathroom was missing, the safe didn't work, the door knob came off and the room was dusty. That's just not acceptable in a hotel that charges 300 Euros a day. Unlike other hotels, they aren't connected to sendwave so you have to pay cash or transfer from a bank. (They never confirmed whether they received the deposit we sent by wire transfer.) The rooms are a decent size though the lights by the bed are very dim. Don't imagine you will be able to read in bed unless you have a Kobo or similar ereader. During our stay we went to the Loman Art House and looked at their rooms, which are 1/3 the price and twice the size -- and also filled with art. Not quite as central but we would have preferred to stay there.

Unreliable and a lot of adjustments to make to justify high prices

Our stay started badly as we did not have the room we had specifically booked weeks in advance. We were told that this one was rented the day before! The room obtained was smaller, darker, without private balcony. When we protested, the person at the reception had the nerve to tell us that we had been “upgraded”! The manager never came to explain or apologize.
This boutique hotel aims to be luxury. It is very expensive and although it has several qualities (well located, quiet, rather well decorated) and probably one or two ideal bedrooms, our room was obviously furnished by a decorator who does not travel. Small bathroom, without hooks, without lighting above the sink making it difficult to make up and shave and a shower very complicated to adjust. The room itself is quite well decorated but again there is no suitable lighting to read, bedside lamps lighting almost nothing, no protection against mosquitoes etc. Their website indicates “a breathtaking view of the sea” which is totally inaccurate since our balcony looked rather like a corridor without direct sea views. To have some light it would have been possible to raise the blind... whose mechanism was broken, despite our repeated requests it was still not repaired after three days.
The restaurant Pappagallo looks pretty good and the breakfasts were fine but served very slowly.
To be recommendable this hotel needs adjustments, professionalism, respect for the customer and lower prices.
