A perfect paradise

At La Digue Island Lodge there are the employees you meet at the restaurant, the pool bar, in the lush green paths of vegetation, at the hotel reception or at the entrance. They are always smiling, friendly and attentive to make your stay live up to your expectations.
At La Digue Island Lodge there are the employees you can't see, the invisibles, those in the offices, but not only. There are also those who clean daily, those who prepare the various buffets every day for the evening, those who clean the aisles or compose floral decorations, without you seeing them but who make your stay paradise, worthy of a fairy tale.
It is for all these reasons, attention, smiles, kindness and listening that we come to La Digue Island Lodge every time. Why change when we found our paradise?

Too bad

A seaside resort, completely past its prime.
Staff neither friendly nor helpful.
Food simple and disappointing for us.

A joy to travel with my elderly not-fully-mobile mum, and have everyoone help up with everything.

I had a delightful holiday and was impressed by the effort the hotel made to accommodate my family.
We had elderly relatives needing two rooms close to each other and close to central facilities, and at a busy time of year, at 3 days advance booking, we got them.
We sometimes needed a buggy around the site and one was always found.
We needed a chair/ stool in the shower and one was brought.
The rooms were pleasantly furnished, the shower was big, the storage more than adequate, and (unlike some 5 star leisure and business hotels) was supplied with table and mirror for my make-up routine.
On the negative side: cord on the kettle was too short so tea was made on the bedside table, we had to ask for tea-bags topped up, the bathroom needed hooks for the doors. As you can see, these were very minor niggles.
Breakfast options were extensive, our poolside lunch was good. Dinner was probably 4/5 and understaffed, but it had started drizzling and I think more people chose to eat in than expected.
Every single member of staff was helpful and friendly (pro-actively so when seeing mum's walking stick) and we were offered (free) a slightly later check-out without being asked, when reception realised that mum was not mobile enough to do anything during the gap between the official check-out and our transfer.
The hotel itself is not wheelchair friendly, (we did not travel with a wheelchair) but the small number of steps was easy to manage.
Reception helped us arrange and excursion, and booked a table for one dinner "out".
The beach at the hotel is nothing great, no good for swimming, by Seychelles standards, but that applies to a lot of La Digue

Don't go there!!!

Very disappointing experience at La Digue Lodge — misleading information and poor management
Unfortunately, our experience at La Digue Lodge was very disappointing, mainly because of the way the situation was handled by the manager, Emmanuella Hassan.
The hotel gives the impression that Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, but in reality, internet access is only available in the rooms and around the reception area. This is a large resort, so once you go to the pool, dining area, or walk around the property, there is no internet connection. This was particularly inconvenient for us because we rely on Wi-Fi while travelling, and our mobile phone plan does not provide internet access in Seychelles.
When we raised this issue with Emmanuella Hassan and explained that we felt the hotel's information was misleading, her attitude was very unpleasant. Rather than trying to understand our concern or offer a solution, she appeared dismissive, made faces, and seemed uninterested in what we were saying.
On our first day, as check-in was at 3pm, we went to the pool and had to wait for three hours until our room was ready. This was especially frustrating because we could not properly access the internet while waiting.
After we continued to raise our concerns, Emmanuella eventually said that she would speak to her operations team. There was no apology and no meaningful attempt to resolve the issue. Two days passed without any follow-up, and she never contacted us to update us on the situation.
When we told her that we were disappointed and would leave a bad review, her response was simply, “OK,” which unfortunately reinforced the impression that she did not really care about our experience.
The Wi-Fi information should be made much clearer to guests. There is a big difference between saying that Wi-Fi is available at the hotel and saying that Wi-Fi is available only in certain areas of a large resort.
There was also another issue with our room. When we arrived, there was no blanket — only a sheet covering the mattress. We called reception at around 3pm and asked for a blanket, and they said it would be arranged. We then went to the beach, and when we returned to our room at around 10pm, there was still no blanket.
We called reception again and explained that we had still not received it. We were then told that they would try to find a blanket, but because the resort was busy, if they could not find one, they would give us two sheets instead. We had already requested a blanket seven hours earlier, so this was extremely disappointing. A blanket should have been available in the room in the first place.
It seems that the resort is simply too busy to cope with the number of guests, and unfortunately, this is reflected in the level of service.
Overall, the lack of communication, the misleading impression about the internet, the issues with the room, and especially the dismissive attitude of the manager made our stay much less enjoyable than it should have been. For a resort of this standard, we expected much better customer service and management.

Disappointment... refreshing needed and catering needs to be reviewed. Not worthy of a 4-star hotel

Hotel well located on the island with a beautiful sandy beach.
We opted for 2 wooden houses with an ocean view for 3 nights with half board.
The pros:
- the location on the island
- the sandy beach
- the cleanliness throughout the hotel
The downsides:
- The welcome upon arrival was not very friendly
- In 3 nights, 2 lizards got in even though we were very vigilant about closing the front door. And a cockroach in the kids' bathroom on the last night that got in through an opening.
- the pool is also aging. There were folds in the liner at the bottom of the pool.
- more generally throughout the property: the paint that has aged, cracked or missing pool terrace tiles that haven't been renovated or replaced, etc., etc.
- big, big downside: the meals. Very large, dark dining rooms that are only half-used. In the evening, very mediocre quality buffets with little choice and poor quality. In the morning, same thing. Little choice and very average, to say the least...
- no entertainment. The brochure mentioned entertainment every 2 or 3 nights. There was none, but that’s not surprising in the end...
- the bikes. We rented bikes from the hotel for 2 days. Just like the hotel, the bike chains/derailleurs were rusty and the tires were bald.
Basically, the hotel was surely great 10 or 20 years ago, but it is in decline and deserves a refresh and a more professional and smiling staff that is better able to welcome tourists. And above all, completely rethink the quality of the meals!
Very disappointed by this hotel!
