Fantastic Hotel with friendly people

We needed a new hotel since we had to stay 2 more days in Singapore and we chose the Mercure. I knew hotels of this chain from other cities, but our stay here even topped my expectations. Great room with large windows, open style hotel, very nice design and hotel personell who were always friendly and helpful (which was not the case downtown in a 4 star hotel before). Great lobby as well to hang out after checkout. No complaints whatsover.

Didn’t like the bathroom/bedroom layout.

We didn’t like the bedroom layout - as soon as you enter the bedroom, you are literally in the bathroom!! We’ve never stayed in a hotel where this is the layout. On onesie you have the bathroom sink and on the other side, there’s the w/c and the shower.
There is little room for suitcases.
The bed upstairs on tele mezzanine is small and awkward to get in as there is no room and also the bed is merely a mattress on the floor!!
We asked reception if there was a different layout of the room we could move to but the rooms are the same
We hated it so much, after two days we moved to another hotel.
We dined at the Chinese restaurant (subject to a separate TripAdvisor review) and the food was cold (we informed the restaurant of this).
The swimming is ok but was busy with small children when we visited so we didn’t use it; no bar service around the pool. Little shade from the sun
Breakfast was chaotic as was very busy; emphasis on quantity rather than quality; breakfast restaurant space doesn’t help when there’s so many people
The bar on the ground floor is ok with a friendly barman, this is possibly the hotels best asset
There a tremendous amount of luggage being spores in the reception area
I appreciate there is many good reviews of this hotel however we didn’t like it and checked out 2 days early.

Good location to eateries, public transportation and attractions. Helpful staff. Good breakfast although many years ago the spread was larger. Good rooms with good air conditioning. However if it’s us a room with connecting door to the next room, wd suggest better sound proofing.

Good stay

Nicely located hotel. Plenty of food places and Bugis streets just outside is great for shopping. Generally friendly staffs. Some issues at front desk could have been handled better but was never offered any solutions. Overall, great stay.
