Tshwene Lodge

Wonderful lodge with amazing staff and excellent food. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate my dietary requirements - would most certainly rate this lodge one of the best in Welgevonden.
Phineas our ranger was a delight !

Big five Getaway

Great ! Place, location, staff, attention to details. We had 2 game drives per day. We got a lift from the main gate and were served wine + had treats for the drive to the lodge. Great welcome, felt exclusive. Food can be improved.

NOT WORTH THE PRICE

We felt very welcome when we met Steven at the gate; he offered us snacks and a cold beer & Savanna. During our stay, he was also the driver of the Game Vehicle. Steven always made sure that we were spoiled with a snack & drinks. We saw rhinos, including the black rhino, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, elands, and also the three lions. Steven handles the guests very professionally and really goes out of his way to keep his guests happy. Big credit to him.
Upon arrival, we were received with lovely warm cloths and a welcome drink. Sienna explained everything to us; she is very professional and friendly.
The chalet is beautiful, with a view over the gorge. We slept wonderfully warm on the big bed, and the pillows are very comfortable. Everything you need is there. Unfortunately, the bathroom's candle holders are dirty and full of dust, and the poor little plant also looks battered. The small garden outside looks neglected too.
The restaurant area is very nice and has a beautiful view.
The meals are where we are very, very disappointed for the price we paid. There is no continental breakfast; you only get fruits on a plate, muesli & yoghurt in a bowl, a croissant with jam & butter, ( no chesses) and then your choice is either the eggs, toast, sausage, and bacon (which was fried very hard) or the alternative dish they offer for breakfast that morning. One morning, the toast with scrambled eggs on top was delicious, but the other morning I thought I ordered something similar, but then I received a soup bowl full of chakalaka/sceba (tomato & onion mix) with two raw poached eggs on top, and two very small sliced triangle pieces of toast placed on the side, on top of the mix, which had already started to get soggy. I just pushed the breakfast away out of disappointment.
The dinners were also disappointing. On the first night, I had to send back my 5 pieces of sliced ostrich because it was raw; the plate had blood on it. The second night we got stuffed chicken breasts; it was baked incredibly dry. Both nights featured baked potato, just served differently. One night 3 - 4 green beans with a few little carrots, and the other night a potato again, with 1 round small yellow gem squash, and once again 3 to 4 little carrots. I don’t even want to talk about the fish we got to eat one afternoon; I only took one bite and further only ate my salad, which consisted of tomato, cucumber, and lettuce, no feta cheese. The said it was hake, no, this wasn’t hake at all. The dessert was a little lemon tart; the crust and filling were equally thick, the crust was burnt, and the filling was so stiff from the gelatin.
We were, however, surprised by the staff who came to see my husband on his birthday and gave him a cake. It was special.
I am bitterly sorry, Tshwene Lodge, your food standards for a 4-star lodge are unacceptable. How can you give your guests only two choices for a meal? We have stayed at several Game Lodges before, most of them cheaper than yours, and I must say, their food standards were much better.
I also want to mention that the guests who were with us were not very happy either. They came from a lodge in Pilansberg, and they said the standard isn’t the same.
Sorry Tshwene Lodge, the special price that I paid compared to what I received is bitterly disappointing; we will not visit the lodge again. I am just grateful we did not pay the full price.

Amazing trip of a lifetime

Everything we had read about Steven came true - from the moment he picked us up from the gate we felt welcomed and in very experienced, safe hands. The game drives were exceptional; amazing scenery and we saw elephants, rhino, cheetah, buffalo, male and female lions, baboons, warthogs and many more very close up, thank you Steven! Tshwene lodge is outstanding, so comfortable, well equipped, very comfy beds, private and whilst we were sat by the pool we were visited by a family of zebra and a family of baboons, breathtaking! Ezee and his team of staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive, and thank you to Isaac for the wonderful healthy food also. We fully recommend this lodge for families and also couples. Our stay at Tshwene lodge surpassed all of our expectations, what an amazing place and team!

Amazing family experience

We were truly spoilt with our family trip, we had the whole lodge to ourselves and what an amazing experience it was. Steven our safari guide was very experienced and we had close encounters with so many beautiful animals, cheetahs, a male lion, we were in the elephant herd, amongst the buffalo, close to the rhinos and hippos, next to the giraffes and many many more! The scenery was amazing, we had sundowners next to the animals with breathtaking views, we can’t thank Steve enough. The lodge was excellent and all the staff were attentive and looked after all our needs so well. The food was amazing, accommodation was very comfortable, clean with lovely balcony views. We had massages which were relaxing and good value. Just a wonderful experience thank you!
