A great spot to arrive at in Mthatha and know you can safely relax and be refreshed and enjoy meals and a good rest

Very clean, neat comfortable and spacious room. Our room had a bath and an enclosed outside shower. The B&B is 8 minutes from central Mthatha and caters to business travelers. The security is excellent with high walls and good lighting in the parking area next to a lovely garden and blue swimming pool. Excellent restaurant on the premises, breakfast and dinner was good. Coffee excellent. Staff friendly and efficient. The premises are kept very clean and the garden has staff maintaining it continuously. Big enough to do it well - small enough to feel welcome!

No water no electricity

We booked into the quiet side, the rooms were okay. With LoadShedding there was a generator which they battled to get started so we had limited electricity plus we had no water, not even cold water. We had to take ice buckets of water from the pool to flush the toilets. The strange part about the situation is that the top section had water and electricity. We booked bed and breakfast only to find out later that they don’t make breakfast on a weekend.
Dinner was brought to our rooms in the dark, it was tasty and warm. We were given two rooms in the top section the following morning to shower. They made us toasted sandwiches plus fruit and yogurt for breakfast because we complained - Shocking, never go back there

TERRIBLE

The only good thing about Ebony Lodge was the two men that we had a fabulous evening with.
Check in was ok, on entering the bedroom I could see it was dated on closer inspection the bedding was old and grey looking, the paintwork what there was of it was grubby and peeling. The lighting was dismal, the gloominess hid the dire need of a deep clean. The bathroom was small and grubby too, the shower was hot but as with the rest of the bedroom needed alit if TLC.I asked for an hairdryer and was given a bag with several in and to,d that she didn’t know if any worked.
We asked on checkin for a table at 19:00 which were to,d was booked, at 19:00 we went and the restaurant and outdoor eating space was full,we were told, we’d have to wait until a table became available as they were busy ! Eventually we found a table for ourselves thanks to the two men we ended up chatting too. As for the food it’s mediocre at best.
Check out the following morning the receptionist had no idea if we’d paid which I did and had to show her the online payment, she had no idea on the restaurant bill from the previous evening and we had to go to the restaurant to find out.
This was a one night stop dictated by mileage if our trip, had we known it was so bad we’d have driven another hour, wouldn’t recommend to anyone

If you have to travel to Mthatha, stay here!

It’s a quaint, serene and lovely place in the midst of a city that’s lost all its glory! If you find yourself needing a place to overnight in Mthatha, Ebony Lodge is the perfect place, the bed was clean and comfortable. The shower was hot and clean. The WiFi worked perfectly! And finally, the staff were friendly.

Best accommodation to stay in Mthatha *****

Hi everyone, for someone who travels around a lot, I would really suggest staying over with Ebony Lodge. They have a full and delicious menu with affordable pricing. The staff is friendly and polite at all their different premises. All their rooms have internet access with air-conditioning to help in those cold and warm days. The rooms and bedding are clean. Hope you will enjoy your time if you do decide to book.
