A Magical Menorcan Dream

What I would give to wake up every day in this magical place!!
The property is absolutely enchanting: quiet, serene, and just a 5–10 minute drive from the main town. It truly felt like a getaway. The grounds are stunning, and I will always think about walking through the fresh lavender fields, with the bees busy pollinating and the cicadas chirping.
Our room was perfect and beautifully appointed. The breakfast is amazing, and be sure to have dinner at the restaurant at least one night. It’s sublime.
Many thanks to Marta and Romana for making our stay extra special. They went above and beyond to help us with an issue we had (entirely of my own doing!).
And be sure to ask Marta about her favorite beaches. She grew up in Menorca and has excellent recommendations... but keep them a secret!

Dear Jason,
We were truly touched by your words. It is wonderful to know that you found peace in our lavender fields and that the room, breakfast, and dinner exceeded your expectations.
Our team were delighted to help and are so happy they could make your stay even more special. It would be an absolute pleasure to welcome you back to your island getaway whenever you need another escape.
Kind regards.

We have spent 3 nights 4 days at the Hotel Sant Ignasi, we have been repeating for more than 10 years now. It is incredible, a marvel, paradise.
Highly recommended for spending a few unforgettable days
The hotel a 10 and the director Romana and the reception staff, Núria, Marta and Abigail a 10. Always attentive to anything you need.
The rooms are incredible.

Five-star prices, three-star service – and ultimately a two-star review

We stayed for seven nights in a suite, costing €785 per night (around €5,500 in total). While the hotel itself is attractive and peaceful, we left feeling that it represented very poor value for the price charged.
The suite was pleasant enough but surprisingly basic. At this price point, we expected something considerably more luxurious.
The biggest disappointment was the catering. Breakfast was a fairly ordinary buffet with only a very limited cooked selection. Lunch was even worse, with just six menu items, two of which were sandwiches and one simply a packet of crisps. For a hotel charging these rates, this is simply not good enough.
Dinner presented another problem. The only evening option was the hotel’s fine dining-style restaurant. The food was perfectly acceptable, but very rich and heavy. In 30°C heat, eating outside, we wanted lighter, more casual choices. There weren’t any. As a result, we found ourselves driving elsewhere for both lunch and dinner on most days, which rather defeats the point of staying at an expensive luxury hotel in such a rural location.
One evening we simply wanted a pre-dinner drink. We asked at the bar and were directed to a table at the back of the terrace that wasn’t even set for dinner. We waited for more than ten minutes without a single member of staff coming to take our order. Eventually we gave up and left. It was a small incident, but one that summed up the lack of attention to guests throughout our stay.
The location is undeniably peaceful, but prospective guests should be aware that access is via a long, narrow, twisting single-track road. Meeting oncoming traffic can be stressful, particularly for less confident drivers.
The final disappointment came on our departure day. We had an evening flight and requested a late checkout, which was refused. The explanation eventually given was that arriving guests had requested an early check-in, and the hotel chose to prioritise them instead. It was disappointing to discover that an existing guest was considered less important than someone who had not yet even arrived.
To be fair, many of the restaurant and housekeeping staff were genuinely charming, friendly and worked hard. Unfortunately, that warmth was noticeably absent from the front-of-house and reception team, where interactions often felt transactional rather than welcoming.
Our overriding impression was this: Sant Ignasi charges five-star prices but delivers, at best, a three-star level of service.
If this had been a pleasant rural hotel charging €300–400 per night, many of the shortcomings we experienced could probably have been overlooked. However, we deliberately booked Sant Ignasi because we wanted to treat ourselves to what we expected would be a genuine luxury experience.
At €785 per night for a suite, the hotel simply cannot deliver the standard of accommodation, food and service that its pricing promises.
I would originally have awarded three stars, because there is much to like about the property itself and many of the restaurant and housekeeping staff were excellent. However, the way the late checkout request was handled fundamentally changed our view of the hotel.
Luxury hotels don’t create loyalty by prioritising arriving guests over departing ones. That single decision reduced what would have been a three-star review to two.

Dear Tim,
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We are genuinely sorry to read that your stay did not meet the expectations you had for your holiday.
We do appreciate your kind words about the peaceful setting of the hotel and, especially, about the friendliness and dedication of our restaurant and housekeeping teams. We will certainly share your comments with them, as they work hard every day to provide a warm and attentive service.
We also value your constructive observations regarding our dining offer. Guest feedback is always taken seriously, and your comments will be carefully considered as we continue to review and enhance the overall experience we provide.
Regarding your late check-out request, we would like to clarify that our standard check-out time is 11:00 a.m. and check-in begins at 2:00 p.m. These times are communicated to all guests prior to arrival and at check-in. Late check-out is always subject to availability. During the high season, when the hotel is operating at very high or full occupancy, this flexibility is unfortunately very limited. On the day of your departure, we were unable to extend your stay as your suite needed to be prepared in time for the next scheduled check-in.
Our intention is never to prioritise one guest over another, but rather to ensure that every guest can enjoy their stay from the established time. We fully understand your disappointment and sincerely regret that, on this occasion, we were unable to accommodate your request.
We are sorry that this final aspect of your stay overshadowed the many positive elements of your visit. While we understand that Sant Ignasi may not have been the perfect match for your expectations, we truly appreciate your feedback and will continue striving to improve every aspect of the guest experience.
Kind regards,
Romana Gleichova
