(ZERO - STAR) - Avoid at All Costs
We are a group of four travelers who had reserved (and paid for) a room with 6 beds, specifically choosing it despite the higher cost for comfort and privacy. We arrived before check-in, and the woman at the front desk kindly allowed us to store our luggage. We clearly informed her that we had plans in the city and would be returning late - around 10:30pm - and asked if that would be an issue. She assured us multiple times that our room was reserved and we could come back at any time.
That reassurance turned out to be completely meaningless.
When we returned at 10:30pm, a different staff member - a middle-aged man (pic in this review) at the front desk gave us our bags and assigned us a room. Before heading up, we double-checked: "Is this the room with 6 bets we reserved?" That simple question triggered an unbelievably rude and aggressive response.
He bluntly told us we were assigned a room with 10 bets instead, and when we objected - rightfully pointing out that we paid more for a room with 6 beds - he dismissively repeated, in an extremely rude tone, that we should "go to the room and come back in the morning." No explanation. No apology. No attempt to fix the mistake.
When we insisted on being moved to the room we paid for, he walked away, went into a back room, locked himself inside, and refused to speak with us. We had to knock repeatedly just to get him to come out.
When he finally did, things escalated further. He raised his voice and gave us two options:
1. Accept the wrong room or stay in the reception area through the night and "deal with it" until morning, or
2. Take a refund and leave immediately - late at night in a foreign city.
No resonable accomodation. No accountability.
At that point, feeling unsafe and unwelcome, we chose to leave and requested a refund. We had paid 370 Euros, but he refunded 300 Euros before retreating back into the room and locking himself in again. After more knocking, he shouted through the door telling us to leave.
We refused to leave without a full refund and compensation for a taxi at that hour. We told him that we would need to get the cops involved. That's when things became truly shocking.
From behind the locked door, he yelled, "No use of calling the cops. They are my friends. How much more do you want?" We told him 100 Euros more (to cover the remaining balance and taxi). He then threw 100 Euros under the door, shouting that he "doesn't care," that he is "rich," and - most disturbingly - made a racist remark about us being from a third world country, telling us to take the money and leave.
We were stunned!
This wasn't just poor service - this was blatant discrimination, aggression, and complete unprofessionalism. We have video proof of the incident.
No traveler should ever be treated this way. Whether this man is staff or ownership, his behavior reflects extremely poor on the hostel as a whole.
Fina verdict:
- Reservation no honored
- Staff hostile and aggressive
- Partial refund initially withheld
- Racist remarks made
- Guests forced out late at nigh
If I could give zero stars, I would.
Do yourself a favor - stay anywhere else.
