Solid hotel with great service and location!

Outstanding service! Great location, historical in a good and bad way. Our room was very large but the configuration felt odd and with no views except for a little courtyards and zero wow effects for design. The room almost felt like if you were in the last room your grandma had available, but this might be due to the historical nature of the building. We found the hotel in the Michelin selection and can’t understand why it has a star in there; perhaps due to the service because everyone went above and beyond! The room was clean and spacious. Getting there might be a challenge as most taxis don’t want to drive in such narrow streets. The location, however, was worth the trouble as you are in the center of the gothic quarter. I would say, definitely stay here, just don’t go by the Michelin Star expecting something out of this world. This is a solid hotel, clean and well appointed, but that’s about it. Go for the service and location.

The worst of a budget hotel and Airbnb combined…

While the location is technically central, it’s down a dim side street where drug use and dealing were openly visible on both nights of my stay. And it smelled just really like a public toilet. Urban doesn’t have to mean unsafe.
There were cockroaches in the entrance area each evening which left a lasting impression that basic issues aren’t under control.
The room was small, dark, and furnished with the bare minimum. Walls are extremely thin – I could hear everything happening in the hallway. Of course, city stays come with a bit of noise, but this went beyond the usual.
Sonder promises to combine the best of hotel and Airbnb. In this case, it felt like the worst of both: impersonal, loud, and far below expectations, especially with nightly rates of 300,- Euros and above.
Honestly, I’m surprised Marriott added this property to the Bonvoy portfolio. I expected more.

1 star hotel - not a Marriott

Do not book this horrible hotel. Staff is beyond rude. Marriott is no help. We ended eating the cost and switching to a real Marriott hotel. Marriott needs to drop this brand. Horrible experience. Ruined or last night in Barcelona.

Excellent Hotel

I enjoyed my stay at the Sonder Barcelona very much. It’s a unique type of hotel so, if you like concierge on staff and the amenities of a regular hotel, this might not be for you. But I found the check-in process very smooth, the room well appointed, and the location fantastic. My only concern was the hot water in the shower did not work so showers were tepid. Hotel responded quickly to questions/concerns. I see some people were complaining about the smell in their reviews but that’s Barcelona folks. It’s a stinky city! Once you’re in the room, smell is not an issue (and only a minor one in the lobby).
The location of the hotel is fantastic— close to Metro and restaurants/ shops. I walked most places and did not need to take any public transportation.Overall, a great experience and I would stay there again.

Constant Noise

We booked the room with the balcony, for 3 nights it came out to about $1,000 dollars. The room itself was great, the bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean. It is on the smaller side. Because of the location, there is constant noise, people drinking/partying, there’s music from 10pm til 6pm. The walls are paper thin, you could hear EVERYTHING, every sneeze, every move of your neighbor. For $300/ night it is ridiculous. Please do yourself a favor and book somewhere else if you want some sleep

Dear U7222UAjanet,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the comfort of the bed, the cleanliness of the bathroom, and the room overall — we truly appreciate that feedback.
We’re very sorry, however, that external noise and sound insulation issues impacted your rest. Our central location offers access to some of the city's liveliest areas, which many guests enjoy, but we understand this can be disruptive — especially for those looking for a quieter stay. We're currently exploring solutions to reduce noise impact inside the rooms and will be sure to share your comments with our team.
We also take your note about value seriously, and we’ll use this feedback to continue reviewing our offering to ensure it aligns with guest expectations.
Thank you again for staying with us. We’re sorry we didn’t fully meet your needs on this occasion and hope we may have the chance to offer you a better experience in the future.
Warm regards,
Ramon - Hospitality Supervisor
