We stay at this hotel almost every year for one night in our travels from France back to the USA. We like the convenient location and always find the staff to be friendly. The hotel is well maintained and has good amenities.

poor cleanliness and extremely rude staff
Disappointing stay – poor cleanliness and extremely rude staff
Unfortunately, our experience at Hotel SB Icaria was very disappointing.
The room was not particularly clean, with noticeable dirt/staining, and it was also barely supplied with basic amenities. For a hotel of this standard, we expected much better in terms of cleanliness and room preparation.
The food was actually alright, which was one of the few positives.
The biggest issue, however, was the treatment we received from a member of the reception staff named Renars.
After checking out around midday, we asked reception if we could leave our luggage at the hotel while we went into the city. We were told that this was completely fine and that we could also use the hotel facilities and return later to collect our bags and freshen up before heading to the airport.
We therefore followed exactly what we had been told.
When we returned later, Renars was working at the desk. When he saw us getting ready before leaving, he became extremely confrontational and started shouting at us, questioning what we were doing and telling us that we were being stupid and should “use our brains.” We explained multiple times that his colleague had specifically told us that we were allowed to return and use the facilities, but rather than acknowledging the obvious miscommunication between staff, he continued arguing with us and told us to take our luggage and “get out of my hotel”.
We ended up having to find alternative luggage storage at a nearby shop, despite having already been assured by the hotel that we could leave our bags there.
Mistakes and miscommunication can happen, but the way this situation was handled was completely unacceptable. We were paying guests simply following the instructions given to us by the hotel. There was absolutely no reason for us to be shouted at or spoken to in such a disrespectful manner.
Overall, the food was decent, but the cleanliness, lack of supplies and especially the behaviour of Renars at the end of our stay made the experience very disappointing. I would expect much better customer service from a hotel of this standard.

Will come back for sure
Great hotel near see and beaches. Nice place to stay in Barcelona. Great personnal who speaks many language and are here to make you feel home. Love the moment here with kids. It is one of the best place for me in Barcelona. Not as noisy as told in comments and very good service. Of course it as a certain price but it worth it and has good values for enjoying your visit of Barcelona.

Special vacations...
The hotel is cozy, good breakfast, well varied and everything of good quality.
The rooms are clean.
I want to congratulate the work team, they are very kind and helpful.
I thank Taulant, William, Daniel, Lauri, Hugo (Restaurant), Ruth (cleaning lady), Mauro (Reception)
Thanks to them I had an unforgettable stay at the Hotel.

OK but not great, crime a big issue
Stayed in an expensive suite (reclassified as a family room at check-in). Room was clean, AC quiet, and bedding/towels excellent. Bathroom had a persistent sewage smell that the front desk couldn’t fix. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Décor and fittings are dated and worn (no USB outlets—bring a charger). Supplied toiletries were unusable. Staff are friendly and polite.
Breakfast buffet looked extensive but was low quality; coffee was poor. Pool, sauna and steam room were well maintained; pool towels available with a €5 deposit. Poolside prices: ~€3.50 for a soft drink/caña, sandwiches €6–8.
Surrounding area is run down. Witnessed an elderly woman mugged by a gang at knifepoint near the hotel entrance at 22:30; staff reaction suggested this isn’t uncommon. The nearby police station confirmed a rise in similar, increasingly violent incidents and said they know which groups are responsible.
