A gem at the heart of Briones
The hotel is located at the heart of Briones, an authentic hilltop medieval village in the Rioja region. The location, very close to a beautiful church is both a big upside and a challenge to reach. The narrow steep streets with multiple twists and turns is hard to negotiate, especially with a big car. Parking is mainly on the streets around the hotel.
The hotel is a historic building converted in a comfortable and luxurious hotel with a deserved Michelin star. The rooms were spacious, clean, quiet and well fitted out. Although it is not cheap I still feel it is good value for money. the conversion must have costed a lot and there are a lot of extras included. Both the dining and breakfast experience were excellent. It would recommend this for people that have a bit of time to spend. There are nice walks through the town and along the river Ebro.

A wonderful hotel that I would love to return to.
We visited La Rioja for 4 days / 3 nights and stayed in this magnificent hotel in the lovely town of Briones. Everything in the hotel is wonderful, from its history and architecture to the always warm and friendly service from everyone who works there. I would like to highlight María at the reception and Carolina in the restaurant; they truly helped make it an extraordinary experience. We will definitely return! Oh, and do not miss a dinner at the Allegar restaurant; it is extraordinary.

What a gem this hotel is! We were spending a couple days in Rio with friends, and have booked this hotel for our second night.
Check-in was smooth, the staff was highly professional, friendly, and spoke perfect English. The room was truly lovely and well designed. The bedding and pillows were excellent. Everything was sparkling clean.
We had dinner in the wine bar (there is also a Michelin rated restaurant) where we had light dishes and several glasses of excellent wine. The staff there were very helpful.
The breakfast was all excellent, with a choice of buffet and or eggs and other things prepared in the kitchen.
I look forward to returning sometime soon.

Santa Maria Briones
We spent three days at Santa Maria Briones. The hotel is in a beautifully restored building in the small town of Briones. Our suite was spacious and comfortable with a great view of the town. They offered a beautiful courtyard and a comfortable living room/common area. The breakfast buffet was incredible with a broad offering of breakfast and lunch options. We also ate at the hotel restaurant each night of our stay, and enjoyed our meals.

Gorgeous hotel - great base for exploring Rioja
We used Santa Maria Briones as our base for 3 nights to explore Rioja and we loved it! What a stunning renovation the owners have done, retaining the history of the building while adding contemporary features. Our room was very comfortable and quiet and the common areas were lovely.
Breakfast had a huge array of choice and was absolutely delicious and dinner was a real highlight. The staff were wonderful too..
There is also a small well equipped gym and a lovely rooftop area with some seating to enjoy a view over the countryside.
Briones is a small and charming hilltop town with a few restaurants and bars located mainly around the town square. There is also a lovely church. While we were there it was busy with locals (World Cup time) and there was a good atmosphere.
