Rest in a Renaissance convent
The Parador de Trujillo is located in the town of Caceres of the same name. The best way to access it, if you come along the A-5 highway is to take exit 253, follow the road that leads to the urban center to the roundabout where the Rollo or Picota is located, and once there take the first exit to the right until you see a store called ‘El Anticuario’, at which point we must turn left and proceed along the street leaving aside blocks of homes and villas until you reach a steep street in which you can leave the vehicle parked and in which the pedestrian entrance of the Parador is located. In case of not finding a space in that street, there is a paid parking where you can leave it.
The Parador is located in the 16th century Franciscan convent of Santa Clara. Behind a sober door we are greeted by a small courtyard with a well, as a pre-reception step that is behind a glazed door. From it you can access the most characteristic element of the establishment: the cloister with Renaissance columns and arches. At one end of it is the vaulted dining room, decorated with a ceramic mural on one of its headboards, while at the other an access leads to the newest area of the Parador, where you will find another cloister, this one of modern construction, more rooms and the seasonal pool. Returning to the old area, spaces such as the cafeteria or the ‘Estancias’ lounge, with its silence and dim lighting, invite you to stay in them enjoying the services offered for guests.
The room was quite spacious, with a very careful decoration, which is a characteristic of the brand Paradores, but to note especially the illuminated headboard of the bed with a mural depicting medieval knights during a battle. Also noteworthy in this sense is the ceiling of beams and exposed wood.
In the restaurant we were able to taste some of the dishes that make up the menu, which surprised us very pleasantly for its variety and its innovative cuisine but stuck to tradition, although finally we opted for more classic options: shepherd's crumbs with fried egg, Iberian carrillera rice and chantarella and Retinta loin 100% native breed with potatoes trincás. For dessert, artisan cheese ice cream with honey and cinnamon. The children’s menu also surprised us by the different dishes that the little ones can choose, and that do not include those of other Paradores that we had visited before. In this section it is necessary to mention the exceptional attention received by David and Natalia during the meal service.
Also mention the attention received by the staff of the Reception department, whose instructions were very useful to be able to use the services of the Parador and move around Trujillo.
From El Parador to the main square no more than 5 minutes away. Once in it, truly the nerve center of Trujillo, we can start the visit at the equestrian monument of Pizarro or the church of San Martín de Tours, not without gazing at the cornered and profusely decorated windows of the palaces of the Duke of San Carlos or of the Conquest, and even the blazoned houses that are located throughout the perimeter of the square. But Trujillo does not end here, and it is worth climbing to the towers of the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, from where we will get the best panoramic view of Trujillo and its surroundings, or a little higher access to the castle and contemplate the village from another perspective. Within the walled area, at every step we take we can find a palace that once belonged to some noble family of the municipality.

Charming building, located in an old convent. The staff is very friendly and makes the stay very pleasant. The rooms, however, would need a renovation to give them a new look.

A particularly beautiful Parador from the 16th. century
We "collect" Paradores and have already been to various locations. Here in Trujillo, we enjoyed it especially well again! The room was very large and beautifully designed. The mattresses let us sleep wonderfully and the entire ambiance is very nice. We ate excellently in the restaurant, which was also due to the competence of our friendly waiter, Javier. The Parador is highly recommended all around!

It can be a good option
Excellent location and a magnificent building, although it lacks a bit of luxury in some details. The rooms are very nice, although the bathrooms have a somewhat outdated style. In any case, it remains a good choice.
However, I have two important observations. First of all, the staff does not seem to be very attentive to the customers; for example, upon our arrival, they were more focused on watching the World Cup than on welcoming the guests. Additionally, smiles and kindness from the team are noticeably lacking.
Secondly, having to reserve a time for breakfast, with shifts every 30 minutes, reminds one, at best, of a children's summer camp and, at worst, of the more restrictive times of the pandemic.
I believe the hotel should make a significant effort to improve these two aspects.
However, I have two important observations. First of all, the staff does not seem to be very attentive to the customers; for example, upon our arrival, they were more focused on watching the World Cup than on welcoming the guests. Additionally, smiles and kindness from the team are noticeably lacking.
