Overall an amazing family stay!

As I go into my review, I want to start by saying Alannia Costa Blanca is an amazing place. It is so underrated and we have already booked to return in May, this time with seven more people!
My star rating is based on our holiday as an overall experience for an English family, and for context, I speak intermediate Spanish. That definitely helped us during the holiday because there were situations where I think we would have struggled much more without it.
Resort
First of all, the resort itself is very good. The pools are honestly out of this world. At times you literally feel like you’re in Bali rather than Spain, just a two-hour flight away from England.
You can really tell that the pools and physical facilities have been a huge focus for Alannia, and they have absolutely nailed this. They are extremely high quality, beautifully maintained and some of the best pools we have experienced at a family resort. They genuinely give the resort that wow factor.
The upkeep across the resort is also very high and they clearly maintain excellent standards.
Be warned though – the resort is BIG. We stayed in the Premium Tahiti Cabin, so we were ideally located next to the Tahiti Pool and a restaurant. However, if you need to get to the main complex, there is a little train that runs from 10am–10pm every half an hour. It does get very full by the time it reaches the Tahiti Pool though.
There is a small supermarket which has pretty much everything you need. My one recommendation would be to sell some mosquito spray! I forgot mine and got bitten a lot.
One thing you absolutely should not miss is the spa. It was so empty when we went, but it is literally beautiful and only €10.50 to use. It is so relaxing and such a hidden gem. If you don’t have the kids with you, get yourself in there!
Reception & Check-In
We had a huge issue with Eurocamp, who we booked through, as they had sent us incorrect information. It became really stressful, but the team at Alannia eventually resolved it very professionally.
I was particularly grateful for Sonia, Marta and Peter at reception. Those guys are amazing at their jobs. The original issue was not Alannia’s fault, although some lack of communication from others did make the situation worse. However, Sonia, Marta and Peter dealt with it amazingly.
What I would say about check-in generally is that information wasn’t shared particularly well, and I felt like we spent the first few days playing catch-up.
A lot of the information is accessed through QR codes, which is fine in principle, but I had little to no signal around the resort so could hardly load anything unless I was back in the cabin.
For example, we discovered that you could generally only pay by card apart from at the supermarket and reception. It wasn’t until day three that a waitress told me about the Alannia wristband.
We also didn’t book the restaurants until the evening of day two because we didn’t know this was something we needed to do, meaning we missed out on breakfast etc. There are also lovely cabanas available to rent, but again this wasn’t explained.
Essentially, we were given our keys and went on our way, finding whatever information I could through Google. I ended up going back to reception several times, although Peter and Juliana were always very helpful.
I really think an information/holiday pack at check-in would make a massive difference, particularly for international visitors. Even something really simple explaining the wristband, payment system, restaurant booking, train, cabanas, spa and entertainment would have completely changed those first couple of days for us.
Entertainment / Animación / Kids Club
This is where I have dropped a star.
The actual timetable is jam-packed with activities, which is brilliant. They have clearly put a huge amount of time and effort into making sure there is lots going on. The issue isn’t that Alannia needs more entertainment – it is that the entertainment already there needs to become more internationally accessible.
The morning pool aerobics are really fun. You can’t really understand what they’re telling you to do if you don’t speak Spanish, but thankfully it’s easy enough to copy the dances.
The children’s programme was much more difficult.
After aqua aerobics they do kids’ games, but all of the instructions were in Spanish. Our children couldn’t really engage with them and eventually found it off-putting.
It was similar with the Kids Club. I checked my children in – aged 4, 12 and 13 – under the impression that I could leave them there, which you can. However, I was then told that the younger children can come in and out as they please.
I spoke to the workers myself in Spanish and they told me they could only speak a little English, whereas the Reception Team had told me they could speak fluent English.
The children attending were all Spanish, so interactions with our children were minimal. The workers were mostly behind the desk and there were limited organised activities, such as colouring, although there is an amazing soft play. The staff didn’t seem to watch or interact with the children very much, which meant it wasn’t really something our children wanted to return to.
The evening entertainment had the same issue.
We went to KPOP night, where they sang one song and then spoke for around half an hour. At one point there were fireworks/pyrotechnics and a safety reminder was given that children could not remain on the steps of the stage during this.
However, the safety announcement was only communicated in Spanish.
The children who didn’t understand Spanish therefore stayed on the steps and the workers just left them there. I ended up going over, translating what had been said and taking the remaining children – including mine – away from the steps.
For me, safety information is one area where there really shouldn’t be a language barrier.
Another example was the amazing Alannia movie they made with the kids. It looked brilliant, but again it was all in Spanish, meaning our children couldn’t really take part.
As constructive feedback, I would recommend looking at Mickey and the Magician at Disneyland Paris. The show is predominantly in French – rightly so, because you’re in France – but one character tells the main story in French and another responds in English. It makes it accessible to both audiences without taking anything away from the country’s own language.
And I want to be really clear here: this is Spain. Spanish quite rightly should be the main language. I absolutely wouldn’t expect everything to suddenly be translated into English.
But if Alannia is actively reaching out internationally, I think international inclusivity within the Animación programme now needs to become a focus.
You can see the level of investment, thought and quality that has gone into the pools and physical resort, and I think Animación now needs that same level of attention from an international perspective. It doesn’t need to mean running everything twice or changing the Spanish identity of the resort. Even small things like key instructions being repeated in English, more visual instructions during children’s activities, bilingual elements within shows and all safety information being communicated in more than one language would make a massive difference.
The movie night with the markets was great, because it was mainly music/performance based so we could all enjoy it.
Overall, the entertainment programme itself is amazing and there is loads to do – if you’re Spanish. Had I known beforehand how difficult it would be for our children to access some of it, I would have brought board games and other things for the evenings because there are only so many times you can go swimming with the kids!
Accommodation
We stayed in the Premium Tahiti Cabins, right next to the Tahiti Pool, which was amazing. We had a veranda and it was lovely being able to sit outside.
The accommodation was beautifully clean and hygienic and had clearly been cleaned to a very high standard.
However, I personally wouldn’t call the accommodation premium.
The finishes weren’t particularly luxurious. There were scratches on the walls, the grout was messy in places, and I just expected a little more in terms of overall presentation for something described as Premium.
That said, I want to emphasise again that it was extremely clean.
Next time, I think I will either opt for Luxe or Standard. In my opinion, the Premium accommodation wasn’t worth the additional €650.
The bed was very low and came with one pillow – which I loved and my partner hated!
The air-conditioning was only in the living room. By the end of the night it did eventually make all of the bedrooms freezing, but otherwise it struggled to reach the other rooms.
The cabin had a microwave which is also a grill, hob, fridge and small freezer, as well as all cutlery and plates. There is also a dishwasher, and the TV can stream some English channels.
Restaurants & Half Board
We opted for half-board and used the buffet.
When we return, we will probably just book dinner.
Also, brush up on Spanish breakfast, lunch and dinner times because they are definitely not the same as England!
Breakfast was nice, but next time we’ll probably just get croissants and pastries from the supermarket.
Dinner varied depending on the night. We absolutely loved the Mexican night and some of the other themed nights. Mexican night had loads more to offer. Some evenings I felt there was a huge amount of choice, whereas on other nights the selection wasn’t quite as good.
We received amazing service from M. Jesus – she is so lovely – Maria, who has two tattoos on the backs of her arms, and another lady with bob-length curly hair whose name began with “ax”.
The drink selection was great too.
Extras & Things We Loved
Like I said earlier, the spa is ace and so cheap, and actually the whole resort is incredibly reasonably priced.
A round of drinks for our family of five was only €9!
The cabanas are a must to rent. They’re beautiful, and so are the piña coladas served in actual pineapples – we had a fair few of those!
The pools genuinely were out of this world. They didn’t feel overcrowded at all, there were enough sunbeds for everyone and the slides etc. were so much fun.
Our favourite was definitely the Tahiti Pool.
There was one night when the electricity and water went off, but this affected the whole resort and the team worked incredibly hard to get everything back up and running.
I did also report a couple of things through the repair app, including ants and wasps, but sadly these were never actioned.
Overall
Overall, Alannia Costa Blanca is an amazing resort and you absolutely should visit.
It is so cheap and reasonably priced, but it doesn’t feel cheap.
My review is specifically written from the perspective of an English family, because that did make some parts of the holiday trickier for us. I don’t believe any of the language/accessibility issues are malicious at all. The staff work tirelessly hard, the resort is maintained beautifully and we had an amazing holiday.
You can really tell that Alannia has focused on creating incredible, extremely high-quality pools and facilities, and they have absolutely succeeded. For me, the next step is bringing international inclusivity, communication and Animación up to that same standard.
I also really think holiday information packs should be available at check-in. That one simple change would have prevented so much confusion for us.
There are things that could be improved, but the biggest indication of how we actually feel about Alannia is probably this:
We’ve already booked to come back in May – and we’re bringing seven more people with us!

Nice pools but the rest could be improved

The pools are great, no doubt about that. You do actually feel like you are in paradise particularly at the Tahiti pool. However, there are three issues: 1) is the wasp/ hornet problem at the Tahiti, there are hundreds of these things flying around and can be annoying. They have loads of traps hanging everywhere but obviously not working well enough. I paid for Balinese beds a few times and one day had to leave it after an hour because the number of wasps gathering around our bed was ridiculous. The concierge asked us to vacate the bed for safety reasons but wouldn’t give us a refund. They said we could have a bed the next morning and when we arrived it had been booked by somebody else! At the time I asked her if I needed a new tickets, she said no, it’s not necessary. I complained but it didn’t get sorted and didn’t get a refund.
2) they don’t serve any food at the pools, just crisps and ice creams. Other family parks similar to this serve pizzas, crepes etc by the pools so when the kids get hungry you have to leave
3) at the bars you have to pay an extra euro deposit for every cup/ drink you buy. They give you a receipt and then when you leave for the day have to queue back up to get your 1 euro back. I can home with loads of cups, not because I wanted the Alannia cup, because I couldn’t be bother to spend 30 mins in a queue to get my 3e back. Why not just give people disposable paper cups?
We stayed with Eurocamp which is a set of caravans that are about half way between the two pools. These were fine and clean with everything working. The only negative was having to ask for a change of sheets. Were there for two weeks and only had one change of sheets and towels in that time.
The food in the pub/ restaurant was average, we went about four times out 14 days but mainly for convenience. We hired a car (which is a must because of location) and found some good restaurants in Catral which is only a few mins away. We didn’t fancy trying the buffets
The spa is good quality, used that a few times and enjoyed the experience.
Entertainment was all in Spanish so didn’t tend to go down for that. We played cards and board games in the evenings which as fine for us.
We played a lot of padel tennis early mornings and late evenings (when cool enough) which was great o break up the day.
All in all we had a great time as we always do our best to make the most of the family time and not focus on the negatives. We ain’t be retuning as we have been to much better Spanish parks than this which are similar in cost.

Muah

Clean park. Toilet buildings are okay. Showers are fine but in the evening cold. Pool is clean. Lifeguards are very strict. Hair fixed, no ball, no air mattresses, no bombs and only food and drink at the bar. No problems with reserved cots. Restaurant is very bad. Cold fries and burnt tough meat. Animation is very bad. At the mini disco, dances are taught that wouldn't miss out in a drag show, annimator sat on all fours on stage and turns his head and ass etc. (all fine, but very inappropriate for a children's show) Staff doesn't seem to be having a good time. Sigh when taking an order and it soon feels encumbered (is very hot here)

100% honest review Camping Alannia Costa Blanca

Comprehensive and 100% honest review stay Camping Alannia Costa Blanca:
Cottage:
+ The cottage was reasonably clean and maintained when we came in with fresh towels and bed linen
+ The air conditioning works very well
- The mattresses of the beds are very hard and the beds creak enormously
- The cushions are different, but most are very soft/thin and uncomfortable to lie on. Family members had neck and back problems from the bed
- We were 6 people and had 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and toilet. This is not recommended. It's VERY SMALL and you're sitting on each other's upper lips all the time as soon as you get in.
- Because it is so small and we stayed here for 2 weeks it was almost impossible to get rid of our stuff and clothes in a desired way
Camping, Staff and Facilities:
+ The pools look very nice and dressed
+ At the pools you have several bars where you can get cocktails and ice creams for a great price
+ It is nice that you have the opportunity to padel and play tennis, in addition there is a fairly good gym and spa
+ Staff are generally friendly and some speak multiple languages
+ Activities are organised in the large swimming pool at the front of the campsite (especially aimed at children) and every evening there is a performance for visitors to watch.
~ There is a small supermarket on the campsite where you can get different things. The disadvantage is that the checkout staff are sometimes away for a long time and you have to wait. By the way, fresh chocolate rolls and pudding rolls are baked and laid out every morning, but these are very few and will be gone in no time. They are not replenished.
~ The restaurant on the campsite is fine, here we ate 2x quite nice, but the buffet space next door is very substandard. Bad and cold food. Moreover, very little choice.
- You have to pay extra for EVERYTHING, really everything. A few fresh towels, a cabana by the pool, an hour of tennis or padel, even a visit to the gym.
- The bottoms of the pools are generally quite dirty. When you walk on the bottom or look at it with your diving goggles you see and feel the filth.
- You can't enter the pool except swimming. Playfully carrying someone on your shoulders, throwing a ball, making a bomb from the side... you get whistled back for everything by the lifeguards. Very frustrating!
- There is even a lifeguard walking around who is touching your stuff while the people are swimming. He takes your towels and things away from the cot you put them on and puts them out in the open for everyone to grab. Even if all the cots around it are empty. It happened to us. This is very unacceptable!
- If you want to arrange something or report a problem to the general reception, spa/gym desk or staff member at a swimming pool, they always point the finger at each other, but no one actually picks up your request.
- The campsite is very remote and you are heavily dependent on a car. You cannot walk to a supermarket, town or beach, because that is all too far. Moreover, there is no public transport

Hallo Maik,
Alannia Costa Blanca

Lack of entertainment

Clean campground, clean pool, friendly staff.
The activities are not great, lack of shows, almost only DJ nights or movies.
Plan on having a vehicle for trips to the sea about 40 minutes away as well as for grocery shopping 3km away in Catral.

Very good location
