Complete disappointment; we had to leave without being able to enjoy the stay.

We booked the accommodation from 9 to 12 October and when we got there, the windows were open (it was a rainy day) and there was a strong smell of disinfectant. In less than 5 minutes we had a headache and itchy eyes. We weren't going to spend the night with the windows closed, so we decided to leave. We do not know if they had to disinfect, but they should have called us to cancel the reservation and refund the amount. These things can happen unexpectedly and it takes time to ventilate and be in condition. There were no previous complaints but the day we went the accommodation was not in condition.
He offered us other accommodation, which we could not reach with our car, and there was no wifi or phone coverage, so we could not achieve one of our goals: to do to-dos from a quiet place in nature.
He told us that the smell could be from the air freshener or jasmine, although he did not notice any smell and that “we were very sensitive”. No, the air freshener was to “hide” the unpleasant smell (without getting it). He also proposed lighting the fire or putting incense.
He told us that we had made the excuse for not staying because there was a weather alert in the Valencian Community. If we hadn't wanted to stay because of the alert, we wouldn't have gone back and forth, we would have stayed home.
He tells us that early departure has caused him a loss, as the room could have been occupied by other guests, but the only ones we have lost are us, who have paid, made a round trip and could not enjoy the holiday in nature.
He proposes (not to refund the amount, although he says he doesn’t want to keep anyone’s money) that we go another few days, which he knows we can’t accept, because we have other plans that we won’t cancel to return to a place where we’ve had an unpleasant experience.
