Pau the Bell Boy Was Great
After staying in Hotel Paradores in Ibiza it was a tough act to follow. Room 23 was clean and had a great view, but was quite bland and the hotel in general is lacking interesting decor. The Loewe collaboration does a bit to rectify this, as well as some interesting switches, but it needs more. Walls are bare which is probably because it’s quite new. But it needs some art and some visual stimulation for the guests. It needs some soul, some touches and some design. This will come as it matures I hope. Minimalism is a theme on the islands so this is just personal preference, but the best 5* hotels have great art in them. They have owners who are obsessed with curating images that last with their guests for a lifetime. You cannot rely on a view to make an interior, the view is 1 part of it, I wanted the room to be so beautiful that you don’t look at the view. Unfortunately that is the trap they have fallen into and when you shut the curtains, you could be in any hotel 3/4* hotel. It’s not really 5*. The room relies on the view like a crutch. Instead of meeting it like a friend. The bathroom decor was great though.
The beach is close by and it’s great to be able to get up in the morning and go for a swim. The island is beautiful but even with a sea view room please be aware that you are set back from the sea and have dunes in the middle which are being rewilded. Trees are therefore growing in your vista. I think it adds to it but it is different to the photos online. A lot of the rooms do not have sea views, so if you expect this, upgrade to better rooms. The beds are really comfy and we slept well. The AC works well.
As the first line suggests the hotel is like staying with friends. Therefore the service is that sort of friendly vibe rather than particularly efficient. It’s like your cousin has started a hotel / restaurant and you want to support them but they’re still figuring it out. This is especially true when it comes to food. Only certain things will be served poolside, room service has a €10 delivery fee but it will take them about an hour to walk 10m, you have to order lobster the day before if you want it in the restaurant- the concierge will not inform you of that when you book even though you’re talking to them on WhatsApp, the menu is limited as you would expect and then some things are not available. This feels a bit harsh but I honestly mean it more as a learning experience for the hospitality team. Instead of saying “no” to poolside service, give your guests options and bend a bit. Our room was 10m from the pool and they insisted that our club sandwich could only be served in room. It then took ages to come and they didn’t pick the room service stuff up for 24 hours.
My partner had a massage booked and the beautician was having a nap so was late for it. We went to a beachside restaurant and couldn’t get a taxi back - the hotel concierge didn’t reply or help us.
My honest feedback for the management is if you’re going to charge for a service, it needs to be executed properly. Focus on excellence, not fees, and you will get closer to the essence of hospitality that can demand high fees. Also go and stay in other hotels at your price point and slightly below. Find out where your guests are coming from and stay in hotels in those countries at your price point. Currently I think it’s overcharging and not delivering the service expected at that price point. When you compare the room to what you can get in Ibiza, London or even Switzerland for the same price point it doesn’t come close. Formentera is an expensive island but don’t let that shield you. Strive to deliver world class service on Formentera and guests will be back season after season.
We did enjoy our stay at Dunas and are incredibly grateful to Pau for giving us that flavour of hospitality. He, Carlos and the rest of the bell boys are the example for the rest of of the staff. They’re smiley, accommodating and are having a great time, so you have a great time too. A can do attitude goes a long way in delivering a truly excellent stay for guests. Getting things done in a timely manner is essential, which Pau did very well. It is very close to excellence and this should not be read as a negative review, just honest feedback for how a good hotel can go to excellent and deliver the service expected for the price point. Currently it needs some work.
If you’re looking at booking just be aware that the service style is more friendly than thought out. Book the suites if you want a sea view. It is probably the best option on Formentera island which is definitely worth a visit.

Excellent location to rest and excellent guest service.
It is excellent in terms of its location right on the beach, as well as all the attention received during our stay.
We really want to highlight Laura at the front desk who took care of our transfer. Places to visit. As well as suggestions for the best restaurants on the island.
Sincerely, VIP treatment which we appreciate very much.
Without a doubt we will return!!!

Anniversary in Formentera.
This year they have a collaboration with Loewe and so in addition to a delicious Loewe pistachio ice cream and the customized Loewe pool bar, you will find Loewe products as amenities in the room.
I think it is the most glamorous location in Formentera.
Very kind and attentive staff, knowing about our anniversary they had a welcome gift waiting for us in the room.

⭐ 1/5 - A tourist trap with exorbitant prices and terrible management
The worst part was the service. When we complained, the maître d' did not have the decency to come out and face us; he only sent the runners to apologize and at no point did they want to compensate us in any way.
Paying €200 for the paella and 2 glasses of wine has been, literally, throwing money into the fire. A food scam and cowardly, unprofessional treatment. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
