A hotel with character located close to the harbor.

Hotel Oxangoiti is a compact hotel located in the residential neighborhood of Lekeitio, right across from the city hall and tourist information center. It is only steps away from the harbor promenade and restaurants. The proprietor was helpful with restaurant selections and about nearby towns on the Biscay coast, although only in Spanish. My room had tile floors and had French doors that looked out to a plaza and the church of Santa Maria. I had a pleasant night's sleep here and would recommend it for your stay in Lekeitio, which I consider to be a compact alternative to San Sebastian. The hotel does not have a parking lot and finding parking can be a challenge in Lekeitio. I did manage to find parking in a residential area after not being able to find a spot near the harbor. I did not have breakfast at the hotel, but a cafe is only steps away as you walk to the right of the hotel.

The worst stay of my life

It is 1:30 in the morning, we have a speaker with regional music from the Basque Country under our balcony, not even with two one-gram pills of oprazol, horrible I can't send audio of the volume to prove it....
And to top it off, the mattresses are spring ones like from the last century, the towels smell like vomit
Well, it's 1:51 and we are still dealing with the music
Lekeitio is beautiful

Unfavourable

The place , the exterior and the reception area of the historic building very well; very ordinary room had regard to the Award: More than 180 euros for 1 couple and one child WITHOUT breakfast. Unfavorable experience especially since the only free or inexpensive parking open to non-residents is 1 km away. All seats in the city are reserved for residents, so aren't we a bit resident when we pay this Danube City Award?
This is the normally courteous welcome but it is not enough!

Comfortable and quiet

A comfortable, quiet antique hotel close to the harbourfront. Lekeitio has done a splendid job banning cars from its centre, which is excellent on one level, but it means reaching the hotel by car can be a bit of a nightmare (I had to walk there from where we were distantly parked to get instructions on the complicated route on how to get there). The receptionist could not have been more helpful or friendly advising us on how to get close to the hotel to unload and then on how to reach its nearby covered parking.
Our room on the first floor was spacious with a view towards the harbour and was completely quiet, our being in a strictly pedestrian area. The enormous church next door mercifully doesn’t start sounding its bells until well into the morning. Large, comfortable bed and ok bathroom. Staff were very helpful directing us to the best and possibly only dinner option in town (Lumentza - see separate review).
The one issue needing attention is that the hotel’s advertising says that a stay includes breakfast - this wasn’t the case for our visit.

We loved our impromptu stay here!

We were driving up the coast from Bilbao to San Sebastian and went village hopping along the way--decided to stay in Lekeitio and we were not sorry! I called and emailed on the road to see if they had a bed for the night and we are glad we did. This is a quaint fishing town with lots of action in the port. Isabel was lovely and our room was right by the Cathedral..beautiful night views too...We made new friends and completely enjoyed ourselves.
