At home, clean and with wonderful equipment

Title
I loved staying here. Everything is very clean and you always see the staff taking care of every detail and cleaning both the rooms and the common areas.
The kitchen is spacious and nice to cook. It has a microwave, kettle and small appliances to prepare food easily.
But the best thing is the staff: they are a love. Very close, friendly and always with good attitude. They make you feel at home and make you want to come back.

Mold smell in the basement gym and “city view” was a windowless basement room

The most serious issue for me was the gym. It is located even deeper in the basement and had a clear smell of mold. I personally would not train in a room like that, especially not in a fitness area where people breathe deeply and put physical stress on their bodies. In my opinion, this is not just unpleasant, it is a potential health concern and should be checked properly.
The second major issue was the room description. I booked a bed in an 8-bed room advertised with city view. What I received was a windowless, basement-like room with no daylight, no window and no view at all. Calling this “city view” feels completely misleading. I would never have booked it if the room had been described honestly.
The stay itself was bad. The room door scraped loudly across the floor every time someone entered or left. In a dorm room, that means waking up again and again throughout the night. I reported it, but it was not fixed, so the second night was just as bad as the first.
Cleanliness and maintenance were also disappointing. The bedding felt sandy or gritty when I arrived, and in the morning I found long black hairs in the bed. The shower holder was broken out of the wall, metal parts in the shower area were sticking out, and doors and door frames were heavily worn, with damaged areas and peeling paint. The uploaded pictures show the condition.
The proposed solution was to move me from an 8-bed room to a 14-bed room. That is not an equivalent replacement. It is worse in terms of rest and comfort. A refund for the second night was only offered if I left, but finding another place in Madrid at short notice would have been much more expensive.
I chose this hostel because of the high rating, but my experience was completely different. Mold smell in the basement gym, a misleading “city view” description, a windowless basement room, bad sleep, questionable cleanliness and broken facilities made this one of my worst hostel stays. I cannot recommend it.

Scope for improvement

The negatives for this hostel are the sixteen bed dorm felt like you were in a dungeon, there were wet water patches on the floor, and noises coming from the large pipe on the wall above my bed. I was only here for one night and that night the electricity failed in the room so the night light didn’t work and I couldn’t charge my phone. Luckily it was resolved after half an hour but that was at 01:00. There were no vents in the joint shower and toilet rooms so it got very wet and steamy in there. I had breakfast included in my booking but found this to be very modest. The area of Lavapies is not a nice one and is home to lots of non Spanish nationals.
The positives were there’s no key or card required for entry, the room was equipped with a privacy curtain, night light, socket and USB ports and large free lockers. The large joint shower and toilet room was in the corridor and I found the staff friendly. The hostel operates twenty four hours and there are two different metro stations in opposite directions that are just a five minute walk away.

A great location for a few days' city break in Madrid

We used the loft house as a base for our family. The room for 4 with private bathroom facilities was well maintained and clean.
The common areas were also clean and were continuously cleaned and maintained.
The city is easily accessible from this location, either on foot or by a short taxi ride. Great place for a few days, friendly staff!

Almost all aspects of the hostel itself is amazing except for the location. the streets leading to it are sadly sketchy and i’d suggest you either book with friends or make some friends in the hostel. the clerk was lovely. the kitchen is a little bit small considering the number of people but other than the rush hour, you can enjoy the amenities.
