We had a private but tiny room for 2 nights. The beds were very comfortable but there's really not much space to move around. It's really made to sleep not to stay and rest during the day. Having said that, it's a lovely hostal right in the centre of the old Malaga. Quiet even though located in a busy central area. We loved everything about it and I can only recommend it if you're staying in central Málaga

Disappointing experience: especially around deposit and hygiene

During our stay at this hostel we unfortunately had a very negative experience, especially regarding the deposit scheme and the sanitary facilities.
From the beginning we got the strong impression that the deposit of €100 was not meant to be returned. This is also confirmed in other reviews. Reasons for withholding the deposit are actively sought, using arguments that are difficult to verify or contest, such as damage already caused by previous guests, small (innocent) stains or even the presence of alcohol packaging in the room during the stay, which also raises questions about privacy violation.
The sanitary facilities were substandard for the capacity of the hostel. There is only one women’s toilet and two sinks per floor in a small room, which we believe are not cleaned daily despite intensive use. For example, the open bin, in which used toilet paper must be disposed of, was not emptied daily. In addition, there are only two showers per floor, without any changing area, making privacy virtually non-existent.
Positive are the central location, the comfortable beds (although they are somewhat unstable) and the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, the latter completely changed at check-out.
What is particularly disappointing and striking is that we were already warned on arrival by the staff that the deposit was unlikely to be refunded. As a result, we as a group have acted extra carefully during the entire stay. Nevertheless, this did not lead to a different outcome.
The difference with other hostels is striking: where a deposit of €10 per person is usually required, €100 per group is charged here (in our case with 48 people). This gives the impression that the system is designed in such a way that guests are less likely to resist the loss of the deposit.
All in all, this gives a sense of poor organisation and lack of transparency. Hopefully the hostel will take this feedback on board and make improvements in the future.

Right in the centre of Malaga near to the cathedral and lots of restaurants. Bed was comfy and there was a heater in the room. Showers were lovely and hot. Breakfast available for four euros (toast and cereal).

Excellent location
