I got scammed

Sadly I felt cheated, the room uninhabitable, the kitchenware scarce and dirty, the treatment degrading. The room you see on the website did not correspond to the one they offered me, I booked 4 nights and spent 1. The owner verbally promised to refund us (for the 3 nights we were not there) and lied to us

Health Hazard and poor treatment

This has been one of the worst experiences I have had as a traveller. Not only is the place not as advertised on booking it was a health hazard. To compound issues the owner, Enrique, has accused us of extortion after he refused to give us back our money having agreed to do so verbally and in writing. Having read reviews on google and on here it is clear that this is not new behaviour.
The room was filthy and smelt really bad. Instead of an apartment for three with sea views it was a dark, dirty cave with ancient cooking facilities covered in dust and grease which looked out onto a building. We had booked for two nights but wanted to leave immediately when we saw the room and communicated this to him. As it was late we agreed to stay one night having negotiated a return of the second days money. He agreed to return the money if we didn't write a review. I did not agree to this but said I had nothing against him.
The beds smelt of mildew. My single bed was an uncomfortable smelly day bed. Prior to sleeping on pulling back the top sheet we discovered that the sheet underneath was stained and covered in hair. They agreed to change it but when they brought the new sheet we were told rather aggressively that they did not wash the top sheet as nobody sleeps under them. The beds and cushions were covered in dirty material which the seemed to not wash either as they were stained and smelly. We have pictures to prove this. The woman then proceeded to argue with my friend saying that they treat their guests like family. My family wash their sheets. The level of hostility was shocking but having read their response to other reviews I now see this is a pattern.
When we checked in we were told to put the key in a post box outside. As it was so disgusting inside we went for a walk and noted that you could only leave and enter with a key, which is a fire hazard. We left as early as we could and I put the key in the box. We then recieved a message from Booking to say Enrique has agreed to refund the money for the night we did not stay. We then got a message from Enrique to say he could not find the key. We told him where it was. Days later we got a message from Booking saying he now refused to refund the money as it took him a while to find the key and they could not rent out the room. Today we had another message accusing us of taking false pictures and of extortion. Very serious allegations.
Having read other reviews it is clear that there is a pattern of treating guest this way. Please read reviews on google before booking. To not wash sheets nor clean your rooms is horrendous. Given there is a major pandemic it makes it a public health concern. The only honest thing that they have done is admit to the lack of cleaning.
