Gran Hotel Sardinero stay

This hotel certainly met my expectations. We had beach front. The people at the hotel were super helpful. The food was wonderful. Stayed with 6 members of my family and all enjoyed their stay.

This classic hotel right on the beach at Santander is definitely the place to stay. We had a sea view and it is wonderful looking at the constant activity on the beach. It has obviously been updated but maintains its period grandeur, however some details are still a little dated. Buffet breakfast was only OK, they had run out of natural yoghurts and we weren’t even there so late and told me that they would have some more the next day! The waiter did find us cuajada, which was appreciated. It’s in the centre of the bars and other Sardinero life

A Fantastic Visit!

We had a lovely time at the Gran Hotel Sardinero. I have no idea how they keep the rooms so clean - everyone must haul in a ton of sand from the beach right across the street, but housekeeping did a great job! The room was lovely and comfortable with COLD a/c and a large bathroom. And it was so quiet, you would think we were the only guests, even when Spain beat France in The World Cup! Reception was fantastic - we tried to use our very poor Spanish, but they all spoke English and made us feel welcome.
We also added on breakfast and I am so glad we did, because it was always super delicious and full of great food choices, like eggs, toast, fruits, many meats, cereals, and awesome pastries. I especially loved having the choice of brewed coffee and ice water, not something one often finds in Europe.
They also have a most delicious restaurant, with a three course dinner meal for 30 Euro, including a bottle of wine, but you can also have food in the cafeteria, with many choices and a great patio to enjoy the sea breeze.
The location cannot be beat. You're right across the street from the beach, which is huge and so quiet, with mostly families and older couples. The prommenade was lush and full of beautiful landscapes and benches to sit and enjoy the ocean views and people watching. Many, many restaurants and cafes line the streets.
Overall, we simply loved our stay and wished we were there longer!

A step back by prohibiting dogs on the terrace

After many years of sitting on the terrace for appetizers, coffee, and light dinners, they have now decided to prohibit dogs from the terrace. A serious mistake that we regret and that is not in line with the great hotels. A shame and a bad decision for their future

Poor service

The location is super good, the room fine however leaves much to be desired the treatment of the staff, especially the older man and the girl of the cafeteria, lousy customer service and always bad face, the boy who is Colombian (I think) rescued the day with great politeness and service. Overall the service seemed deficient for the level
Of hotel it is.
