The receptionist is very hostile. The place is horrible.
All the staff is hostile, especially the receptionist. I had to cancel the first night. They do not provide a complaint book. If you post a review, they lie and reply to you. The rooms are very old. They do not know the surroundings. The staff argues among themselves.

Terrible experience that could have been a catastrophe
The worst Hotel by far that I have been by far, our ordeal at that Hotel, if you can call it anything was this:
In this summer of August 2025, unfortunately we were embroiled in the worst incences in the history of Spain , last 15 August upon arrival at the Casona de Mestas just upon arrival at the Hotel at about 19:30 h , we received on all mobile phones in the Ponga area, messages from Civil Protection, indicating that there are fires in the Ponga area, indicating that we stay away from the area (Photo attached).
All the customers were included in the waiter who was attending to us, and they all gave credit for what was happening.
After being perplexed by the situation, we sat on the terrace to have a drink and assimilate the situation, when we looked up the mountain and saw a fire start just 100 meters from the Hotel.
We quickly communicated it to the owners of the Hotel, to call the firefighters, but he tells us that they do not pick up his phone, in front of us we see that he is not even 30 seconds into the call, hangs up and goes to the terrace to attend to other clients of the hotel , without heeding us and without having any interest or concern of what happened.
All Guests looked up at the mountain watching the fire start and the owners only worried that they would not vacate the Hotel and be forced to return the rooms, ignoring the very serious situation produced.
Seeing the grave situation of the fire that was taking place, I will look for the owner, who is the owner and in turn cook of the grave situation without paying any attention to us.
Being inside watching on television the serious fires that were taking place all over Astuarias, he did not care that he had one 100 meters from his Hotel, we did not give credit of what happened, when we decided to leave immediately from the Hotel.
When we demand the refund of the reservation, it tells us that this reservation is held by Booking, which the owner of the Hotel blatantly lies, we have the ticket of the payment made by the owner of the Hotel and the answer to the days that the owner refuses to refund the money of the reservation due to the fire that was starting at just 100 meters (Attached the video).
They began a strong argument with the owners of the Hotel, asking the Civil Guard, so that they could see the situation that was occurring, the owner’s response textual words were "As the Civil Guard comes, they will laugh at you, because that fire, started in the morning and had already put it out in the morning"
Shame should give these characters of owners of the Casona de Mier... talk like that, when hundreds of people have lost their homes and their lives, for a similar situation, disrespecting them in this way.
Just to not lose the money from the reservations, they prefer to endanger all the people of the Hotel, located 25 km from Cangas de Onis, without any coverage, I repeat without coverage of any kind.
In a gorge between 2 mountains that your escape from the fire is practically nil, being the 2 mountains stuck you would not have a single option to get out of this situation alive.
Without thinking twice, and seeing that they were not willing to return the reservation, we request the claim sheet and we inform the appropriate authorities to take action to this Hotel.
They will have to check that they have no emergency lights visible anywhere inside the hotel, evacuation plans, etc.
Booking is also notified, and the reply is attached indicating that the owner indicates that she will not return any reservation, which you lie more than pinocchio saying that the money has to be returned by Booking.
After the nefarious treatment and terrible experience, we do not recommend anyone to go to this Hotek, for all these details, 25 Km of curves and bad 2-way road until you reach a place isolated from everything, without any coverage, a polluted river, owners who better dedicate themselves to something else, because they do not know what is the respect and management of the Hotel, since they only have staff to 3 people, 1 Cook (The owner) 1 receptionist (The owner) 1 Waiter 17 years, who for me was the best of the hotel along with the dog that they have going around.
By the way, booking if you returned the money you kept, I hope that Hotels of this type will not appear again on booking.com (attached proof)

Fair enough.
Declining hotel.
We asked for a superior room and it was very small with a tiny window and no TV. The closet door couldn't open properly because it collided with the bed. Very poor lighting.

Disappointing
We have been regular customers of the Casona de Mestas with the previous managers of the establishment, Jorge y Nieves, from whom we have always received a friendly, close, friendly and professional treatment.
Unfortunately this has changed.
Unpleasant and very unprofessional treatment by the new accommodation manager.
The Quality of food has dropped, the level of cleanliness has dropped and prices have risen.
It is a pity that an accommodation like the Casona de Mestas, a reference in the area, is managed by this gentleman.
We won't come back and we won't recommend it.
Unfortunately this has changed.
