Home away from Home

We took two doubles and booked with B&B. Enjoyed delicious Sri Lankan breakfasts with international friends. Stayed for 6 days, in the heart of busy Colombo enjoying the peace of a large lawn and every comfort. Strongly recommend this great homestay. We will be back. The houseboy took great care of us too.

Untrustworthy

Olu Villas cancelled our stay with 5 days notice after we booked months ago. The booking company emailed us saying Olu wanted to cancel us as we "hadn't prepaid". I tried to prepay weeks ago but they never sent an invoice. They asked for a WhatsApp to send one but don't have that so asked for my email (supplied) but also said it was fine to pay at the property. Then I never heard anything until the booking company got in touch. Never got an email invoice. I asked why they didn't get in touch directly. They said they'd sent a WhatsApp to cancel because of a massive unexpected problem with the room ! Already had said didn't have that app. Different to what they'd said in the message through the booking company!! A few more messages, nothing nasty and yet they blocked me. Had to go on their website to ask about our rail tickets which were being sent. No answer. We had to pay nearly 3 times the cost of Olu for a last minute hotel booking. I can only think they had a better offer as the story is just off. So be warned!!! Never been to Sri Lanka and hope this is not how it is usually is. I kept screenshots of our messages.

Location and service

Very well located in a pleasant area, yet away from the vehicle fumes of the main road. Staff could not be more helpful, even though English not strong. A few little things would have improved the comfort of our twin room : a wastepaper basket in the room. Bedlamps as there was only a single overhead light (awkward when one wanted to sleep and one didn't). A second chair so we didn't have to take turns. There is a share kitchen downstairs. In all, has a good homely feel and staff welcoming and helpful.

Great home stay!

This is basically a home stay, with a few rooms in a family's large colonial style house, based in a very nice residential area near independence Square. We liked the location as it is very quiet but you can still get into the Fort area of the city for a couple of hundred Sri Lankan rupee.
The room we had itself was large with two twin size beds pushed together - very comfy! Large bathroom too.
The family that run the hotel were very helpful and friendly, with good English. They helped give us restaurant suggestions and booked us a good value driver to get us to our next location on our trip.
Breakfast was good, simple eggs, toast with jam and banana and yoghurt with coffee/tea.
Good value for money! Would recommend

Beautiful Place Great Location Fantastic Hosts

Great location and very friendly staff. Nice and clean place. They also have a beautiful dog.
Indika is an excellent cook. Thank you for making all the delicious Sri Lankan dishes.
They truly made me feel like I was at home
Indika also provided the airport transfer for me. Highly recommend Olu.
