Great Surprise in Ella: Excellent Location and Stunning Views
Due to a communication and management issue with the guesthouse we had originally booked, we had quickly find another place to stay in Ella; and we were pleasantly surprised to come across Hotel Alta Vista.
The location is excellent, right in the lively heart of Ella, surrounded by restaurants, shops, markets, banks, and all kind of conveniences. Even the train station is just a few minutes walk away.
Because this was a last-minute booking, we ended up with the super deluxe room, the last one available. Both the room and the bathroom were very very spacious, clean, and equipped with all the basic amenities needed for a comfortable stay. There was also a small balcony which, thanks to the hotel's hillside location and our top-floor room, offered a stunning view over Ella and the surrounding tea plantations.
Service is fairly simple, but efficient, polite, and genuinely warm. Everyone we encountered was friendly and very helpful. Noticing that, in the rush, we had booked without breakfast included, the manager kindly offered us a discount in case we wanted to add it. In fact, we only had breakfast once, on the day of our checkout.
Since we were leaving very early, it wasn't fully set up yet, but the staff prepared a very complete a la carte breakfast for us - everything was fresh, tasty, and generous. While they were still setting up the buffet, they kept checking if we wanted anything else or more of something, which really showed their level of care and attention.
The facilities are not the most modern, but the property is functional. Wi-fi is a bit erratic. One important note: there is no elevator, and considering the steep walk just to reach the reception, plus the stairs to the rooms, having strong legs definitely helps! Your heart will thank you.
There is a nice swimming pool, although I'm not sure whether it is heated.
Another point to consider, especially on weekend (and not related to the hotel itself), is that due to its proximity to Ella's nightlife, you can hear loud music until around midnight.
For us, none o these points were deal-breakers, but they may bother others. We would recommend Hotel Alta Vista and would happily stay there again.

Great hotel, close to everything and Ella's best pool.
Do you want to live in the middle of Ella, but come up from noise and exhaust? Then this is the hotel for you:-) More central you can not stay, but it is a hill up to the hotel and then it is 7 floors high so you have a great view. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really good, actually too big. We could not eat everything even if it was really good. But best of all was the new pool and the whole new pool area. Must be the best in Ella....

Lovely hotel very worth visiting
This is a lovely hotel. Great location right in the middle of town; beautiful hardwood floors and high ceilings so the rooms are cool. Good a/c and fans. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable. We didn’t eat in the hotel but saw food that others had and it looked (and smelt!) amazing. Pool is really lovely - very clean. Highly recommend this hotel - great value for money.

Nice hotel but be aware there is an MASSIVE 300 metre hill that is very very steep to get to the entrance. Do not go here if you are old, have bad knees or are not very physically fit.
On top of this, there are 8 floors and no lift, so many many stairs.
This is the only issue we had, other than that a great place to say and dead central in ella.

We enjoyed our stay at Alta Vista as it was in the centre of Ella, close to restaurants & shops. As mentioned before it is a very steep driveway but tuktuks are able to take you to the front door
We enjoyed the great pool & it had a beautiful vegetable garden to view & watch its progress.
The foom was spacious, great beds & shower. Highly recommended 👌
