Gem right in the Fort run by the loveliest old couple

Marikar and his lovely wife (a retired English teacher) made us very welcome right from the start - you couldn’t wish for nicer hosts! Marikar drove us to station and helped us in mobile phone shop. The location is just absolutely ideal - right in the heart of the Fort, but not noisy at all. We had a room with two singles and a double, sharply sloping roof (mind your head!), plenty of space, good air conditioner, hot shower - and loads of character! Exceptionally good value. Room maybe a little tatty, mattresses a bit lumpy - but that just all adds to the character, and we absolutely loved it (and the hosts).

An atmospheric and authentic place, but don't be seduced. There are pitfalls.

Typical Sri Lankan guesthouse.
Nice location.
You're in a Ford, but in a quiet street.
Happy house.
Downstairs, European coffee shop and Chinese cuisine.
The charismatic host is an elderly Muslim man.
Kind and positive.
Lives on the 1st floor with his wife and adult daughter with a small child.
Really cool communal terrace. Vintage rocking chair, oak doors with stained glass windows. Fabulous view of the tile roofs. It's a good place for a photo.
Tolerable Wi-Fi. Intermittently, but working.
The kitchen has a kettle, mugs and plates.
No knife.
There's no rag, no sponge, no detergent in the sink.
Accordingly, dishes for general use with leftovers of sticky food.
Squeamish.
A kettle with rewinded tape wire. Very rusty.
It's dirty inside.
The attic of the house has been converted into rooms.
Only 4 rooms.
Room windows at calf level. The roof is bevelled and you have to bend over to move around the room. Massive beams and floors loom.
It's dark. Claustrophobic.
The rooms have beautiful vintage furniture.
Oak, vintage. Like museums.
Adds entourage and a first impression is pleasant.
But!
It's all very jubilant, tired.
The room is dirty.
Bed linen is shabby and not fresh.
Pillowcases with perfume and hair residue.
The pillows are crumpled, old.
The sockets are inconveniently placed.
The light is dim.
The bathroom is dirty.
It wasn't cleaned up.
The shelf is dirty, the mirror is smudged, the chair is dirty, sticky.
The plumbing is rusty, the tiles are dirty with sticky hair.
But the biggest downside is hearing.
The walls are like cardboard.
According to the concept of rooms, families with children remain.
Noisy. Very noisy. Crowded
Not private.
There's a gap. There's a crack in the door.
You can hear everything that's happening on the right/left/bottom.
If not confused by the high probability of children living next door, not clean bathroom and low ceilings, then you can consider for 1-2 overnights because of the cool location and authenticity.
If you're looking for silence, purity and modernity, you won't.

Excellent guesthouse in Galle fort

Lovely host and definitely worth the money we paid. We got the family room and opted for the none ac room since we didn't want to spend much time indoors. The owner and family went out of their way to assist my daughter in most of her requests. From a very warm welcome to our departure the next day it was a pleasant stay. Very close to our favorite places to dine ar peddlers street and Parawa street and also close to rampart walking stretch. The family room had a double bed and two single beds with an attached bath with hot water, clean white towels and soap.

Lovely

Superb place inside superb location.
Very nice hosts.
Genuinely nice and hospitable.
The room was great, comfortable bed and the aircon worked very well.
The location is a lovely quiet reprieve from the hustle and bustle outside of the fort

Good value in this area

Friendly older couple have converted top 2 floors of their house to en-suite guest rooms with common sitting area.
Hatchlings being feed by parent nesting in the chandelier in the reception area.
Basic room, That is ac, fan and simple toiletries no meals, adequate WiFi make it very good value given the inflated prices in this UNESCO tourist attraction.
